What You Will Do

Put your talents to good use by joining our world-class R&D team! The Atmosphere, Climate, and Ecosystem Science (ACES) Team in the Earth and Environmental Sciences (EES) Division and the Energy Exascale Earth System Model (E3SM) Team in Theoretical division at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) are looking for a postdoctoral fellow with experience in atmospheric modeling and a desire to do experimental work in the area of atmospheric chemistry and aerosol science. The ACES team is focused on characterization of aerosol properties and E3SM Team is focused on the modeling of aerosol-climate interactions. In this work you will characterize aerosol properties/emissions and incorporate these observations into models. The ACES aerosol laboratory has a variety of instrumentation to measure gases and aerosols optical, chemical, and physical properties including Picarros, SP-AMS, SP2, WIBS/NEO-5, and CCNC. You will be expected to publish results in high-impact peer-reviewed journals and present your work at conferences. The term of the appointment is two (2) years, with the option to extend to a third year depending on performance and funding availability.

What You Need

Minimum Job Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in a STEM field

  • Record of publishing in peer-reviewed journals

  • Communication skills as evidenced by publications and oral presentations at conferences

Education/Experience :Candidates must have received a Ph.D. within the last five years in a STEM field, or will have completed all Ph.D. requirements by commencement of appointment.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Research experience in the earth sciences

  • Familiarity of aerosol representation in E3SM, CESM, or other weather or climate modeling framework

  • Experience making lab and/or field measurements of atmospheric gases or aerosols. A lack of laboratory or field experience can be offset by modeling experience and a desire to make field and lab measurements.

Location: This position will be physically located in Los Alamos, New Mexico.

Additional Details

Directive 206.2-Employment with Triad requires a favorable decision by NNSA indicating employee is suitable under NNSA Supplemental Directive 206.2 .
