Job Summary
The Center for Academic and Tutorial Services (CATS) at the University of Kentucky is growing! We are seeking qualified applicants for our part-time internships serving as Learning Specialist Assistants. The Learning Specialist Assistant will be responsible for providing individual and group learning services support to identified student-athletes by implementing academic support plans using active learning strategies and assistive technology.
Job Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
o Implement academic support plan related to the learning challenges of each student as established by Athletics Learning Specialists
o Provide direct support to student-athletes with diagnosed neurodivergences through regular meetings
o Develop goals and establish objectives with student-athletes
o Assist student-athletes with skill development while moving them toward independent learning
o Provide clear and timely communication with assigned learning services staff and academic counselors.
o Assist with administration of screening of student-athletes
o Participate in ongoing educational training sessions and professional development related to learning services
o Maintain accurate, confidential internal student files
o Comply with all University, state, NCAA, SEC regulations as well as FERPA and HIPPA policies
o Maintain high level of academic integrity in work
o Contribute to education and professional development of CATS staff, tutors and mentors on learning strategies for neurodivergent student-athletes
Preferred start date of July 1, 2024, although all candidates must be willing to commit to a one-year appointment with an option for a second year.
Skills / Knowledge / Abilities

Preferred Education/Experience
Master’s degree or currently pursuing master’s degree in education, counseling, psychology, social work or related field
At least one year of experience working in classroom setting or working 1:1 with student-athletes in an academic setting
Interest in advancing their career in academic support services for student-athletes
