Holy Names University (HNU) is announcing an opening in Athletics for a Head Men’s & Women’s Golf Coach. Our vision is to educate leaders for positive social change through service. Qualified candidates will demonstrate an understanding of the core values of Holy Names University (hospitality, social justice, human development, and service) and higher education reflective of the Catholic intellectual tradition. The primary focus of this position will be placed on the use of independent judgment and discretion in the identification and recruitment of prospective student-athletes, their awarding of athletics scholarships, their teaching and skill development of those student-athletes during their athletic and educational tenure at Holy Names University, and in the extensive daily administrative operations of their respective sport program.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF POSITION:
Recruiting
- Will act as the lead recruiter for the Men’s and Women’s Golf program and is responsible for managing a database of prospects and maintaining records of contacts, to remain in compliance with conference and university regulations. He/she must propose, manage and adhere to a recruiting budget for each of the events attended.
- Will assist with the recruiting of potential student-athletes by way of evaluation, in-person contact, phone conversation, letters, mailings, and the coordination of unofficial and official visits and the related compliance paperwork.
Student-Athlete Skill Instruction and Conditioning; Team and Game Preparation
- Responsible for developing a comprehensive and strategic practice and game plan for each scheduled contest throughout the season.
Administrative Responsibilities
- Responsible for the organization and coordination of a wide variety of administrative tasks which include, but not limited to, team travel, contest scheduling, budget preparation and administration, facility rentals, public relations, marketing, fundraising, community service and other daily operations for the program.
Monitoring of Academic Progress of Student-Athletes
- Will assist in overseeing the academic success of the student-athlete and assist with academic problems. This includes, providing guidance/counseling and support (as necessary) as well as supervising and monitoring study halls (as assigned), checking class attendance, and organizing weekly and monthly (one-on-one) academic meetings with each student-athlete to track their progress by semester, major, and degree requirements.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- A Bachelor’s Degree is essential for this position.
- Experience working with NCAA is preferred.
- Demonstrate an understanding of the core values of Holy Names University and the ability to translate those values into success for Athletics Department.
- Sound problem solving and conflict resolution abilities are expected, as well as keen understanding of professional distance needed between staff members and athletes.
- Willingness to support the Department of Athletics by attending department/institutional events and serving in various roles throughout the year are required.
- Ability and willingness to drive university vehicles as needed.
