SUMMARY:  The Financial Aid Advisor II – Athletics, under general direction, serves as a subject matter expert for athletic scholarships, awarding and processing. Provides and promotes service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible and professional engagement. Counsels and corresponds with prospective, current and former students on matters pertaining to financial aid & scholarships while also providing students with accurate information regarding the application process, including federal, state, institutional funds and loan programs.

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Serve as primary contact for all student athlete scholarship related tasks including communication with students, parents, and administrative employees.
  • Advise and assist student-athletes, parents, university personnel and/or prospective student-athletes regarding financial aid & scholarship services to include financial literacy.
  • Review student files, collect supporting documentation, and makes adjustments.  Awards, revises and/or approves financial aid through the specific controls of program policy and guidelines and monitors NCAA compliance pertaining to financial aid and scholarships for student-athletes. Makes adjustments for compliance issues, and submits corrections.
  • Serve as a trained backup committee member for financial aid appeals and special circumstances
  • Provides assistance and guidance to staff to ensure that processing activities adhere to established policies and procedures.
  • Interprets federal, state institutional and NCAA policies, procedures and regulations.  Adheres to and provides guidance to Athletic Department staff to ensure adherence to established policies and procedures under federal, state institutional and NCAA procedures.
  • Work with counterparts for sharing best practices, developing and implementing procedures and forms. Monitors new, changed or deleted regulations and impacts to financial aid offices and students, with emphasis on student-athletes.
  • Assist athletics compliance staff in reviewing policy & procedure changes. 
  • Works collaboratively with athletics compliance staff to ensure accuracy of reports, certifications of countable aid, and calculations of team and individual aid limits.
  • Attends regular training in student financial aid and NCAA administration to stay abreast of compliance regulations as they pertain to federal, state, and institutional aid.
  • Provide support to the Director of Financial Aid & Scholarships and Assistant Director for Scholarships.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience / Knowledge / Skills: One (1) year of related experience in either financial aid or NCAA compliance. Knowledge of word processing and spreadsheet applications. Knowledge of financial aid counseling, verification, rules, and regulations for federal, state, institutional, and NCAA compliance.
  • Ability to: Ability to multitask and work collaboratively with others. Ability to work independently.
  • Requires: Hybrid work option available, stipulations may apply. Some evenings, weekends, and travel. Ability to perform outreach duties as required.

PREFERRED EDUCATION / SKILLS/ EXPERIENCE:

Experience in organizing, planning, or in higher education is preferred. Bilingual preferred. Thorough and working knowledge of federal, state, and Texas A&M University-Commerce laws, regulations, practices, and procedures about student financial aid is a plus. Experience with all Department of Education delivery systems. Thorough and working knowledge of BANNER.
