Job Summary

The Athletic Trainer promotes the philosophy and objectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, adhering to all Departmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of UT Tyler, the NCAA, Lone Star Conference, and those set forth by The University of Texas System, and the State of Texas. Evaluating injuries, developing treatment protocols, coverage of practices & games, scheduling doctor's appointments, maintaining inventory and athlete medical records, maintaining the cleanliness of the athletic training room, helping to construct and adhere to a budget, and supervising athletic training students.

 

Major Responsibilities/Duties/Critical Tasks

  • Assist the Head Athletic Trainer, as assigned.
  • Provide Rehabilitation and treatment or management of student-athlete injuries.
  • Coordinate and schedule physical examinations and medical referrals for student-athletes or prospective student-athletes to determine their ability to practice and compete.
  • Provide injury prevention and educational programs.
  • Inventory of athletic training supplies.
  • Injury and treatment records.
  • Tidiness and cleanliness of the training room.
  • Help construct athletic training budget.
  • Help supervise athletic training students.
  • Coverage of athletic practices, exhibitions, games, or camps, including team travel.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Required Education/Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in athletic training or related field.
  • Texas State Athletic Training License Eligible.
  • Current CPR/AED/1st Air Certification.

 

Preferred Education/Experience

  • Master’s degree in athletic training or related field.
  • Athletic training experience at the collegiate level.
  • Nationally Certified Athletic Trainer.
  • Additional certifications related to athletic training.

 

Accompanying Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and sports medicine standards of care.
  • ability to apply NATA/BOC code of ethics to care.
  • Excellent organizational and supervisory skills.
  • Demonstrated experience working effectively in a diverse environment.
  • Experience working in a comprehensive sports medicine environment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

Additional Information

The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least 135 days in length.
