Job Summary:

This athletic training position will be responsible for organizing and providing athletic training services to all UW-Madison students with a special focus on students participating in various sports clubs offered through University Recreation & Wellbeing. This position may supervise various levels of student workers. This position will work under the direct supervision of Rec Well's Assistant Director of Athletic Training.

Responsibilities: Evaluates athletic injuries, consults with team physicians and/or healthcare professionals, provides health care, and referrals for patients in support of injury care and injury prevention.
  • 30% Evaluates, provides treatment and rehabilitation, and documents injuries/illnesses in consultation with health care professionals and in accordance with established practices, guidelines, and protocols
  • 10% Coordinates patient care, makes referrals to various medical resources, and provides information based on injury/illness evaluations in collaboration with medical professionals
  • 20% Serves as an onsite health care provider for assigned teams during practices, competitions, recreational play, or special events to ensure adequate treatment of injuries/illness and appropriate response to emergency and non-emergency situations
  • 20% Advises, develops, and implements plans for injury and illness prevention, emergencies, and environmental monitoring to ensure safety of participants during practices, recreational play, events, and competitions
  • 15% Works directly with students and professional staff in organizing and providing care at Sport Club and Intramural events as well as educating students on areas of injury care and prevention.
  • 5% Works with University Health Services to provide athletic training services to all students, connects students to resources on campus and in the community to improve their overall wellbeing.

Education:

Required
Bachelor's or Master's degree from an accredited Athletic Training Program
Preferred
Master's Degree or additional degrees in healthcare, higher education, recreation or related field.

Qualifications:

Minimum Years and Relevant Work Experience:
A minimum of 2-years post-certification athletic training experience is required. Experience with supervision of students or staff is preferred.
Certifications: Current BOC Athletic Training certification is required. Wisconsin Athletic Trainer License will be required. If the successful candidate does not have this license, it must be applied for within 7 days of employment start date.

Strong candidates should possess a desire to work in an interprofessional manner with a diverse clinical care team. Candidates should be comfortable in working with a variety of sports including rugby, lacrosse, and hockey. They should be open and willing to help grow a program of service in providing access to Athletic Training services for all students on campus in its greatest capacity. They will possess creativity and initiative in working with a growing athletic training team and many others within campus health and recreation fields.
