About the Opportunity

Position Summary 

Under the direction of the Director of Athletic Facilities and Supervisor of Athletic Facilities, the candidate will perform a wide variety of duties in the daily operations of the University owned, rented or leased Athletic Facilities. Individuals may be called to other NU facilities as needed for assistance in setups and/or maintenance. These facilities include: Matthews Arena, Henderson Boathouse, Parsons Athletic Field, Dedham Athletic Field, Marino Center, Cabot Athletic Center and Barletta Natatorium and Carter Playground.

Responsibilities:

Responsibilities include, but not limited to, Preparation and maintenance of grounds and equipment at University Athletic facilities. This includes general maintenance and cleaning, as well as other duties as determined by the Director. The proper maintenance of artificial turf and/or other Athletic surfaces for specific sport activities is a primary focus and responsibility. Individual will perform game set-ups for all events, including outside rentals. Position is also able to prepare and maintain all moveable equipment for use by coaches, athletes and the public according to recommended industry standards. Other primary responsibilities include assisting with the installation and painting of the ice surface, ice maintenance and the repair of dasher boards and glass as needed. Individuals will be proficient at driving the Zamboni, repairing ice deficiencies and edging and shaving the ice surface. Individual will be responsible for Monitoring and logging specified temperature requirements of the ice compressor and report problems and issues as they arise. Assist with maintenance and operations of Barletta Natatorium (pool) In addition to being responsible for the ice surface, coordinator will be able to perform the installation and removal of basketball floor. Assist in helping all facilities operations run smoothly and are good repair.

Qualifications:

Must have knowledge of operational and setup requirements for athletic events and concerts, including crowd management and general safety and security considerations. Individual should be mechanically inclined and have good working knowledge of tools and repair equipment. Must have general knowledge of compressors for making ice and building HVAC. Individual must have knowledge of rigging for the purpose of flying concert sound and lights. Must be able to operate and set up various sound systems and scoreboards. Must have general knowledge of NCAA rules and field layout specifications. Must be able to drive a Zamboni. Must have or willing to obtain a fork lift certification. Should have knowledge or experience on operating light to medium construction equipment; forklifts, lawn mowers, snow blowers and utility vehicles. Must have valid Massachusetts’s driver’s licenses. Must have the ability to effectively interact with people at a variety of levels within and outside the University. Individual must demonstrate initiative and positive working attitude and be able to work unsupervised. Candidate, must be able to work overtime during the week and weekends as required including non-traditional University workdays and holidays. must be able to respond to emergency situations on a twenty-four-(24) hour basis. Must have Knowledge of OSHA and MSDS standards. Must have knowledge of Ammonia systems and be willing to complete an ammonia safety training course.  The position workweek may change seasonally or by the business need, so schedule flexibility is required. Previous experience working at an ice arena, including the ability to drive a Zamboni is a requirement of the job.
