Position Overview
KU’s Bachelor of Science in Applied Biological Sciences degree is designed for undergraduate students who have completed an associate’s degree or equivalent hours, and want to complete the final two years of a bachelor’s degree program.
Assistant Professor of Practice positions are non-tenured positions appointed for a three year period. Contracts are renewable, based on results from annual performance reviews. This position will be 12 months, with a typical teaching load of 3 courses in fall, 3 courses in spring, and 2 courses in the summer.
Due to the percentage of effort focused upon instructional duties, all incumbents are expected to hold a PhD or terminal degree in the academic discipline, possess outstanding teaching skills and teach 8 courses over the academic year. Specific course assignments are at the discretion of the Program Director of Applied Biological Sciences in consultation with the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs. Additional job duties include service activities as indicated below.
Job Description
Teaching – 90%
Serve as an instructor in the Bachelor of Science in Applied Biological Sciences program. The instructor is responsible for teaching 8 courses per year in the Bachelor of Science in Applied Biological Sciences program. The courses must meet the curricular needs of the program.
Develop and teach 8 courses per year (typically 3 in fall, 3 in spring, and 2 in the summer).
- Prepare for and attend all class meetings; Develop assignments, design class activities, respond to and evaluate student work in a timely manner, assign grades. Adhere to School of Professional Studies and university policies.
- Develop and update syllabi, study guides, instructor’s guides, test questions, tests, and web-based material. Participate in regular meetings with instructors and staff as needed. Assist in the development and implementation of technology and student-centered pedagogies in courses.
- Hold regular office hours for students involved in classes taught.
- Adhere to School of Professional Studies, Edwards Campus, and university policies and procedures.
Work collaboratively with faculty in the Applied Biological Sciences Program and School of Professional Studies to ensure that curriculum continues to meet the needs of our students, school, university, and transfer pipelines.
Engage with local community college faculty to ensure strong transfer pipelines and clear curriculum goals for each institution.
Service – 10%
- Serve on KUEC committees and actively contribute to the working of the Campus community.
- Participate in professional service activities, including discipline specific service opportunities.
