The University of Miami Health System, "UHealth", has an exciting opportunity for an Asst. Director, Emergency Response- Global Institute. The Asst. Director, Emergency Response for the Global Institute for Community Health and Development, oversees and leads emergency planning, training, and exercise for all types of hazards, emergencies, and disasters response operations within the continental U.S (CONUS) and outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS). Furthermore, this role develops and implements comprehensive response and recovery programs at the direction of the Director of Disaster Management.

  • Reports to the Co-Director of the Global Institute for Community Health and Development

  • Serves as lead emergency management official in the absence of the Director.

  • Oversees emergency response activities at the direction of the Director of Disaster Management

  • Oversees healthcare disaster deployment team.

  • Oversees deployment of resources into active disaster zones

  • Deploys into disaster zones within the continental U.S (CONUS) and outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS)

  • Conduct initial damage assessments.

  • Conducts risk and vulnerability assessments.

  • Conducts post disaster needs assessment of healthcare infrastructure.

  • Develops and coordinates emergency preparedness education, Training & Exercise programs with domestic and international partners.

  • Oversees special projects.

  • Seek and develop grants applications.

  • Develop Incident Action Plan, Situation Reports and another emergency management documentation.

  • Provides oversight and mentorship to subordinate staff members.

  • Develops relationships with local, state, federal for foreign government officials and private sector partners.

  • Liaison with government and non-government organizations / humanitarian aid organizations

  • Essential Tier 1 employee on call 24/7 (night, weekends, and holidays)

  • This position is considered essential personal and may be required to work nights, weekends, and holidays. Will be required to also work before, during and after disasters such as hurricanes or other disasters.

  • Other duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's Degree (Masters preferred)

  • 5 years Emergency Management experience preferred.

  • FEMA CDP Framework for Healthcare Emergency Management (FRAME) Completed by end of first year.

  • FEMA CDP Healthcare Leadership for Mass Casualty Incidents (HCL) Completed by end of first year

  • Must possess to an exemplary degree the initiative, ability, and sound judgment to act independently as principal person in charge of the shift with capacity and willingness to make a strong contribution in all administrative and technical matters pertaining to the University Emergency Management programs.

  • Leadership qualities necessary to effectively communicate ideas and elicit cooperation at all levels.

  • Must demonstrate consistent good judgment in dealing with emergency, complex and/or stressful situations.

  • Must be willing and able to deploy in the continental U.S (CONUS) and outside the continental U.S. (OCONUS) withing hours of a disaster.

  • Must be comfortable working with various cultures from around the world

  • Must possess excellent verbal and written communications skills.

  • Must show proficiency in Microsoft Office products (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)

  • FEMA (IS-100, IS-200,IS-700, IS-800 & 300/400)

  • Valid Driver’s License

  • Passport required.
