Assistant Director, Compensation

BYU is seeking a dedicated compensation leader to join our team as Assistant Director of Compensation. In this role, you will have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact by managing compensation plan operations. You will lead and collaborate with partners within HR and across the university to ensure our compensation practices align with our mission and values while remaining competitive in the market. 

This is an especially exciting time in BYU Human Resources as we work to transition the university's ERP system (including all HR processes) to Workday. With a go-live date at the end of this year, this position will have the unique opportunity to contribute to the testing and preparations for the Workday implementation to set BYU HR up for success for years to come.

What you'll do in this position: 

  • Oversee the day-to-day Compensation administration such as job evaluations, salary setting, Workday HCM business process effectiveness and efficiency, escalated issues, etc.
  • Manage assigned Compensation plans & programs which may include annual merit increases, independent contractor administration, one-time and variable payments, supplemental compensation, etc.
  • Provide department and HR project leadership.
  • Serve as the lead Compensation resource for HR Business Partners, campus leaders, and other campus stakeholders.

 

What qualifies you for this role:

This position provides an opportunity for people of varying levels of skill. Compensation and pay grade determination is based on your individual education and experience. Determination of pay grades will be based on assignment of duties to this position and made by the hiring department, not by the applicant. 

 

Minimum requirements include:

Compensation Administrator III (Level 54)

  • Bachelor's degree in Human Resources, Business Management/Administration, Finance, or related field and 3 years of human resources experience, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • A firm commitment to the mission of BYU.
  • Solid understanding of FLSA and employment law.
  • Intermediate understanding of other HR laws.
  • General understanding of tax laws as they relate to Payroll and Benefits.

Compensation Administrator IV (Level 55): 

  • Bachelor 's degree in Human Resources, Business Management/Administration, Finance, or related field and 5 years of Compensation experience, OR an equivalent combination of relevant education and experience.
  • Strong understanding of FLSA and employment law.

Preferred education and experience:

  • Master's degree in Human Resources or Business Administration.
  • 5+ years of compensation administration experience.
  • Certified Compensation Professional (CCP) certification, or other equivalent.
  • Senior-level HR certification: SHRM-SCP, SPHR, or other equivalent.
  • Experience with administrating compensation plans and business processes in Workday HCM.
  • Experience in developing and implementing compensation strategies and programs.
  • Experience with job evaluation methodologies, market pricing, and salary surveys.
  • BYU work experience.
