Job Summary:


The Assistant Director (AD), under the direction of the Assistant Dean and Director of Programs and Student Services, is an integral member of the Program and Student Services Team which provides high-quality student programs and services to students in Graduate Programs in the D'Amore-McKim School of Business. The role of the AD will be to create and sustain an environment that provides the best possible service to our master’s in business Analytics (MSBA) graduate students resulting in a higher level of satisfaction and success.  This for a Boston Campus program and On-line Program. 


Key Responsibilities:


1) Academic Advising Retention and Graduation:


  • Provide course selection and registration advice and assistance.

  • Manage the course registration process.

  • Provide information and guidance on academic and social policies and procedures (university college and program).

  • Monitor academic progress and reach out to students to provide assistance with academic support resources.

  • Process graduation clearances; act as liaison between faculty deans and students regarding grades, procedures, academic issues, and disputes.

  • Troubleshoot registration billing and other student issues; identify and communicate trends issues and problems; and maintain student records.

  • Participate in yield and retention management efforts including proactively communicating with accepted students to facilitate their transition to the program.

  • Develop and maintain the orientation site; plan and implement New Student Orientation. 

  • Follow high risk student protocol.

  • Disseminate information to students that impact academic progression, retention, and success.

  • Responsible for developing and maintaining clear and concise communication systems through e-mail, meetings, and phone calls. Documentation must be maintained.

  • Work with Assistant Dean to assist with special projects that will enhance retention of our students.

2) Program Development Assessment and Evaluation:

  • Major Programming responsibilities include:

    • Orientation: Create orientation materials for new students (print and web-based on Blackboard), plan and deliver orientation programs, communicate with accepted students to answer questions and to provide resources; participate in information sessions as needed.

    • Skills Sessions:  Participate in the planning and implementation of academic skills sessions for students. Sessions include Presentations Skills, Excel Training, Research Skills, and Library Use, etc.

  • Plan and implement student services programs across the academic year.

  • Manage the successful creation, implementation, and evaluation of programs.

  • Generate reports documenting outcomes, patterns, trends, recommendations.

  • Conduct needs assessment to identify new opportunities for programming to help the office mission.

  • Develop and implement special programs to assist with recruitment, retention, and graduation efforts.

  •  Assist in securing funding for programming, exploring possible business sponsorship.

  • Participate in clearly identifying the goals of each program; select appropriate indicators for evaluating the success of each program. Evaluation of all programs must be conducted.


3)  Administration:


  • Maintain accurate student information.

  • Monitor, evaluate, and review the maintenance of student records.

  • Ensure that information in Banner the Q: Drive and other databases are updated.

  • Communicate with the Registrar’s Office regarding Banner data.

  • Provide reports including reports on retention, career track progress, academic status, progress towards degree, and graduation status (including eligibility for honor societies).

  • Provide information for reports, surveys, and schedules to program directors and others.

4) International Field Experience Development

  • Assist in the development of international field experiences with Faculty.

  • Assist with travel logistics and planning.

  • Oversee information sessions.


Minimum Qualifications:


Must be able to work well with multiple constituencies: students, faculty, program managers, and administrators at all levels from Deans to program support staff. Teamwork and strong organizational and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience with social media and internet applications. Computer skills and strong written and oral communications skills required. Must have experience and be comfortable with Microsoft Office applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Excel), Student Information Systems (Banner), and Learning Management Systems (Blackboard). Knowledge and skills required for this position are typically acquired through the completion of a master’s degree (or equivalent) in higher education administration, student personnel services, or business. Two or more years of work experience in higher education preferably in academic advising or student affairs.
