Department Summary
The Office of Distance Learning and Instructional Technology (DLIT) is a diverse team of professionals supporting all distance-learning efforts at UNT Dallas.
Distance learning is an umbrella term referring to courses offered:
  • 100% online courses do not require students to step foot on campus.
  • Fully online course which may have mandatory face-to-face sessions totaling no more than 15 percent of the instructional time, where face-to-face sessions may include orientations, laboratory activites, exam reviews, or in-person tests.
  • Hybrid/blended refers to courses in which a majority (more than 50 percent but less than 85 percent) of the planned instruction occurs when the students and instructor(s) are not in the same place.
  • Web-enhanced courses uses web-based technology to facilitate what is essentially a face-to-face course. The instructor may use Canvas learning management system to post the syllabus, assignments and grades. (Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board ).
Position Overview
The University of North Texas at Dallas invites applications for the position of Assistant Director, Distance Learning.

The Assistant Director of Distance and Online Learning reports to the Director of Distance and Online Learning. This position provides support in the areas of instructional design and instructional technology within the Office of DLIT. The Assistant Director works collaboratively with faculty and staff to design, develop, and deliver engaging and comprehensive online and hybrid courses and programs that ensure alignment with the university’s mission.

Minimum Qualifications
Master’s degree in Instructional Technology/Instructional design or related field and two years of related experience in higher education instructional technology development required.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • Experience related to technology user support.
  • LMS administration experience, including user support.
  • Advanced computer skills in Microsoft Office, graphic software, video recording and editing software, video recording and editing software, and web publishing.
  • Communicate well with others, both verbally and in writing, and be able to effectively interact with faculty, staff and students.
  • Three or more years in higher education online instruction development.
  • Current with accreditation concerns (knowledge of SACSCOC a plus) and with trends in tech-mediated instructions.
Preferred Qualifications
The preferred candidate will possess the following additional qualifications:
* Experience related to technology user support.

  • Supporting distance education curriculum development, instructional design, and instructional technology
  • Seeking out best practices for online and hybrid education.
  • Working with the Director to assess the quality of distance education programs and helping implement strategies for improvement.
  • Supporting training and development activities for faculty teaching online and hybrid courses.
  • Supporting and assisting in the development of technology-driven instructional and courseware solutions.
