Associate VP, Military Health Institute

JOB SUMMARY

The Associate Vice President of the Military Health Institute sets the strategic direction and ensures execution of the MHI's mission in education, research, clinical care, and engagement. This includes building and maintaining strategic partnerships across the region, the UT System, and at both national and international levels.

 

Job Duties

  • Align MHI activities with the UTHSA strategic pillars and objectives as defined by the President.
  • Advance military health research, education and clinical activities of UTHSA to benefit military service members, veterans and their families.
  • Foster DoD/VA collaboration across UTHSA schools, institutes and centers with a focus on increasing DoD/VA funded research.
  • Build and strengthen strategic partnerships locally, within the UT System and nationally/Internationally. Emphasis will be on enhanced partnering with the military/VA research community and the Defense Health Agency. Assist with the establishment/ensuring currency of formal partnering agreements (EPA’s, TAA’s, CRADA’s, MOU’s…).
  • Guide the educational mission including oversight of the student Military Health Interest Group, provision of lectures on Military Cultural Competency and Clinical Leadership for all health professionals, and sponsorship of the MHI Distinguished Lecture series, and Post-Doctoral Fellowship.
  • Enhance UT Health Physicians clinical activity through partnership with the San Antonio Military Health System.
  • Lead engagement with the veteran community in the greater San Antonio area in collaboration with UTHSA schools, Centers, and Institutes. Collaborate with Governmental Relations for advocacy of UTHSA mission funding at the local, State and Federal levels.
  • Work with Institutional Advancement to seek industry and philanthropic support to sustain and enhance MHI operations.

    Education

    Health Professions Degree (MD, DNP, and/or PhD) required.

     

    Experience

    Ten (10) years of related experience required. Senior leadership experience within the Military Health System is highly preferred.
