Job Overview
Georgetown University is seeking a dynamic and experienced professional to join our Information Technology team as the Associate Vice President for Innovation & IT Services within University Information Services .
They will play a crucial role in providing strategic leadership and oversight in the areas of technology innovation, customer service, initiative implementation, research support, and UIS talent deployment to further the organization's vision of being Georgetown's trusted technology partner that drives our community's success.
They also will collaborate with senior leadership, UIS staff, and key campus stakeholders to ensure the effective delivery of technology solutions and services that align with the University's mission and goals.
And they will embody the Jesuit Value of being a person for others and will strive to improve our campus, local, and higher education community.
Key Responsibilities
Innovation and Technology Strategy

  • Lead the development and execution of an innovation strategy to enhance technology solutions across the university.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative units to identify and leverage emerging technologies that support the university's mission.
  • Collaborate with academic and administrative leaders to identify opportunities for leveraging technology to enhance teaching, learning, and research.
  • Foster a culture of innovation and continuous improvement within UIS.
  • Partner with UIS and Departmental Leadership on strategic planning, identifying new IT initiatives, and establishing priorities with clear measures and ROI
  • Maintain the UIS IT project and services portfolio and determine the optimal resource mix and schedule to achieve The University's mission and objectives

Customer Service
  • Establishing and maintaining partnerships with University schools and departments to develop technology solutions that support university initiatives.
  • Oversee and enhance customer service initiatives, ensuring a positive and responsive experience for all users.
  • Enhance the organizational structure to ensure that all university schools, departments and divisions have clear strategic and tactical service support partners.
  • Develop and implement service level agreements (SLAs) to measure and improve customer satisfaction.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to address and resolve complex technical issues.
  • Continuously improve IT delivery and customer service by championing IT management frameworks like ITIL (change, incident, problem) and architecture concepts, systems development methods (Agile vs Waterfall) and Project Management processes and tools, and IT best practices in general.

Project Management
  • Lead the planning, execution, and delivery of IT projects, ensuring alignment with the university's strategic goals.
  • Develop and maintain project management methodologies, tools, and best practices.
  • Enhance the division's portfolio management process by establishing efficient and transparent methods for intake, scope development, resource estimating, prioritization, and communication of requests for support.
  • Collaborate across the university in the planning and execution of IT projects with a focus on managing customer expectations, risk, change, problems and communications, and ensure that project scope, budget, schedules and resources are managed within agreed limits

Research Support
  • Provide strategic leadership in the development and implementation of technology solutions that support research initiatives across various disciplines.
  • Collaborate with researchers, faculty, and staff to understand technology needs and ensure UIS services align with research objectives.
  • Stay informed about technological advancements in the academic research landscape and propose relevant initiatives.

UIS Talent Deployment
  • Strategically access and deploy UIS talent to support various university initiatives and projects.
  • Collaborate with UIS executive team and department leaders to identify and address talent needs within UIS.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of professional development initiatives to enhance the skills and capabilities of UIS staff.

Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
Reporting directly to the University Chief Information Officer, the Associate Vice President for Innovation and IT Services is a key member of the UIS executive team and works closely with a team of other Assistant Vice Presidents to set the vision, standards, and direction of the technology roadmap at Georgetown University.
As well, they supervise multiple director or above level positions that provide leadership and management over the critical departmental areas of research support, customer service, project management, and UIS talent deployment.
This position has been designated as Telework. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University. Requirements and Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree - preference for a Master's degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, Business Administration, or a related field
  • 12 or more years of progressively responsible leadership in technology or a related sector
  • Proven leadership experience in driving innovation, research support, and project management in a higher education or similarly complex environment
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with diverse stakeholders
  • Demonstrated success in leading and managing high-performing teams

Preferred Qualifications
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification
  • Extensive, progressive leadership experience in driving innovation, research support, and project management in a higher education or similarly complex decentralized environment

The expected pay range for this position is $135,188 to $264,292 per annum.
