Job Description Summary:

The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) of Health Sciences reports to the Vice Chancellor of Instruction and provides institutional leadership to develop and maintain high quality, equity-minded, and community-focused educational programs in health sciences across the District. The AVC of Health Sciences has primary responsibility for the strategic leadership and managerial oversight of the credit and non-credit health sciences programs from certificates to associate degrees to the baccalaureate degree, including program development and accreditation, program quality, program expansion, and partnerships with health care providers in Central Texas.

Description of Duties and Tasks

Essential duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Leads the strategic planning for the health sciences programs. Responsible for the implementation of the Health Sciences strategic plan including continuous improvement and adjustment to changing environments.

  • Establishes, expands, and maintains external relationships with business and industry, secondary and post-secondary institutions, and other relevant stakeholders.

  • Ensures the accreditation process of health sciences programs and the clinical affiliation process for these programs.

  • Recommends and oversees the creation of new programs and the expansion of existing programs when appropriate to meet the College’s mission and the needs of the college service area.

  • Oversees strategic budgeting, resource priorities and allocations, and grants to support excellence in the health sciences programs.

  • Provides leadership to the Dean(s), Associate and Assistant Deans, Department Chairs, and other instructional leaders in Health Sciences.

  • Works collaboratively and cooperatively with the Associate Vice Chancellor of Workforce Education and the Associate Vice Chancellor of Academic Programs to ensure curriculum updates and contextualized learning opportunities for pre-health sciences majors and health sciences students.

  • In conjunction with other instructional Associate Vice Chancellors, provide leadership in improving equitable student persistence, retention, and successful completion of health sciences prerequisite courses, and transition of students into health sciences programs.  Lead holistic admissions processes to increase equity in student access to all health sciences programs.

  • Provides leadership in strategic and tactical schedule development to support student progression through programs and availability of course sections in multiple modalities, as appropriate, and at the time students need them.

  • Works collaboratively with the Associate Vice Chancellor of College & High School Relations to support Dual Credit Programs, Career Academies, Early College High Schools, and P-TECHs in health sciences areas.  Ensures effective staffing, student-focused pedagogy, and equity-minded teaching and learning in health sciences dual credit programs.

  • Works collaboratively with the Dean of Continuing Education to expand professional development opportunities for current health professionals.  May also oversee specific CE health related programs and courses, as appropriate.

  • Provides leadership for college-wide initiatives and priorities in support of the college strategic plan, academic master plan, and other planning documents.

  • Supervises assigned staff with the responsibilities of hiring, training, and evaluating these individuals.

  • Ensures consistency in the delivery of programs and services in all health science areas across the district.

Knowledge

  • Principles and processes relating to student needs assessment, establishing and evaluating quality standards and metrics for student learning outcomes, and the development and implementation of an academic plan.

  • Planning, implementation, and monitoring of budgets in an educational environment.

  • The rules, regulations and principles of the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board (THECB) and the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools Commission on Colleges (SACSCOC), as well as other state and federal laws and regulations regarding curriculum development, academic, career and technical programs, developmental education, student learning outcomes and assessment of student learning outcomes.

  • Accreditation requirements and standards for various health sciences programs.

Required Work Experience

  • Five years related work experience including management in a higher education academic environment.

  • At least one year of non-teaching experience in a health profession.

Required Education

  • Master's degree. Experience cannot be substituted for required, applicable educational level.

Preferred Education

  • Doctorate.

Physical Requirements

  • Work is performed in a standard office or similar environment.

  • Subject to standing, walking, sitting, bending, reaching, pushing, and pulling.

  • Occasional lifting of objects up to 10 pounds.
