Summary of Duties:

The Associate Vice Chancellor (AVC) for Research Advancement & Partnerships position is responsible for providing leadership, long-range strategy, and short-term planning for the Research Advancement Office and Research Centers falling under the Office of Research. This position leads system-wide efforts to develop and strengthen the research culture; to increase the capacity of, and productivity in, transdisciplinary research, scholarship, and creative activity across all disciplines; and tracks emerging trends, growth areas and new opportunities in strategically important research areas by capturing research intelligence related to the external funding environment. The AVC is a key member of the Office of Research management team and serves as an advocate and advisor to the Vice President of Research in matters relating to initiatives and programs aimed at increasing the impact and stature of the university’s research and scholarship activities.


Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and eight (8) years of progressively responsible relevant experience, which has included at least three (3) years of managerial experience. A Master’s degree in a related field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Education and experience can be tailored to fit the specific organizational entity/directorial assignment.

  • Master’s degree and minimum of three (3) years of proposal writing experience resulting in grant funding; experience successfully managing the development of large, multidisciplinary grant proposals.

  • Possession of, or ability to obtain by time of hire, a valid driver’s license.

  • Ability to work outside normal business hours (Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m.).

  • May require travel outside the Pullman area.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • PhD degree demonstrating general knowledge of various technical fields and specific knowledge in a few; general experience in a wide range of disciplines, business, administration, legal, accounting, grants management.

  • Familiarity with major federal and non-federal sponsors that support university research and scholarship.

  • Demonstrated ability to provide supportive leadership, clear communication in a team-based environment.

Monthly Salary: $14,500 - $16,667. In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position.
