Required Qualifications

Education:

Bachelor’s degree in information technology, computer science, management, or a related field

Work Experience:           

  • 10 or more years of progressive senior level leadership experience in relevant IT or a related field

  • Management of multi-million-dollar budgets requiring strong financial acumen.

  • Track record of successful team leadership and people/career development

  • Successful experience thinking strategically and driving innovation in a complex IT environment

  • Successful experience envisioning, planning, executing, and managing complex technology projects

  • Experience planning technology development and innovation over multi-year planning timelines

  • Previous experience with negotiations

  • In-depth knowledge of IT systems, compliance requirements, and emerging technologies, including automation, machine learning, and AI.

  • Excellent communication as evidence by application materials.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master’s degree in a technology, management, higher education, healthcare, or information management discipline.

Work Experience

  • Information technology experience in an academic medical center, healthcare, teaching hospital, or research university

  • Developing organizational business strategies and goals as a member of a senior executive leadership team

Job Duties Outlined:

  • Collaborate with the Office of CIO (OCIO) and all customers to develop and implement a comprehensive IT strategic plan aligned with the institution's mission and goals.

  • Stay current on innovative information technology through industry memberships, formal training, industry credentials, and collaboration with peer medical centers to enhance the organization's technical capabilities.

  • Lead change management efforts to ensure smooth transitions during technology implementations and upgrades; promote culture of change readiness and adaptability within department and across organizational relationships.

  • Manage and monitor key performance indicators (KPIs) to assess departmental performance and make data-driven decisions for improvement.

  • Identify opportunities to leverage automation, machine learning, and artificial intelligence to enhance operational efficiency and customer service; collaborate with industry experts to develop and implement AI-driven solutions.

  • Develop and manage the IT department's annual budget; collaborate with finance and procurement to optimize resource allocation and cost control.

  • Lead, mentor, and develop KUMC IT professionals, promoting a culture of excellence, collaboration, and professional growth.

  • Maintain compliance with relevant industry regulations and cybersecurity best practices; implement and oversee robust data security measures, business continuity, and disaster recovery plans.

  • Collaborate with external vendors and partners to maximize the effectiveness of technology solutions and investments.

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key internal customers and leaders, including but not limited to deans, faculty, administrators, researchers, peer technology leaders, etc.

Compensation Statement:

The pay range listed for this position is determined by our compensation program using market data and salary benchmarking. A combination of factors is considered in making compensation decisions including, but not limited to, education, experience and training, qualifications relative to the requirements of the position, and funding. At the University of Kansas Medical Center, a reasonable estimate for the starting pay range will be the minimum to midpoint of the posted range, taking into account the combination of factors listed above.
