• The salary range for position is commensurate. Final salary will be determined based on the applicant's qualifications and experience.

Job Summary:

Conduct research in a support role while developing the skills needed to eventually lead research and develop new business opportunities. Specific duties include reviewing literature, coordinating and collecting data, analyzing data, writing reports, planning research activities, preparing and delivering presentations, writing journal articles, and others. Continued employment in this position is contingent upon availability of funding and satisfactory performance.

This position will serve within TTI’s Materials and Pavement Division. Within this role, the researcher will perform and assist with research in the areas of pavement design, construction, material properties, material design, and maintenance.

Essential Duties:

• Applied research duties, including data collection, analysis, coordination, and supervision: Plan, schedule, coordinate, and report detailed phases of research and development projects. Evaluate and document data collection requirements and activities. Coordinate data gathering activities and gather data needed for research tasks. Assemble, organize, document, and archive datasets. Develop data models and metadata. Synthesize data and extract meaningful statistics and trends. Develop and/or run applications to conduct the research. Analyze and develop potential new techniques, policies, procedures, and recommendations. Manage, communicate, and coordinate with multi-disciplinary teams comprising research staff, graduate and undergraduate students, and support staff to ensure the completion of research objectives and timely delivery of high-quality project deliverables

• Compile, document, and present results in formats required for inclusion in reports, technical memoranda, and presentations. Prepare technical documentation, including data collection, analysis, and summaries. Prepare project reports and other deliverables as required. Prepare materials for presentation of research results and other deliverables at technical meetings or other venues and to sponsors

• Assist senior researchers with proposal development. Prepare and give presentations to existing and potential sponsors, academic settings, or conference settings. Prepare, schedule, conduct, and document research meetings

• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience:

• Master’s Degree in related field. Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate

• One year of relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

• Knowledge of pavement design, materials characterization, instrumentation, and testing.

• Knowledge of materials used in highway pavements including investigations of material failures, reviewing test data and analyzing information to determine causes of failing materials.

• Knowledge of pavement construction, and maintenance.

• Ability to perform data collection, evaluations, analyses, studies, inspections, and/or plan development.

• Ability to document research studies, write reports, specifications, and test procedures, including the use word processing, spreadsheets, databases, and similar software.

• Ability to develop, implement and monitoring budgets and resources.

• Ability to meet deadlines and deliverable due dates.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Engineer in Training Certificate or Texas Professional Engineer license

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering with 4 years of experience working with roadway construction and/or maintenance experience
