Description of Work
The Associate to the Director & Special Projects is primarily responsible for developing and leading departmental outreach opportunities and partnering with key collaborators to engage with the UNL community. This position provides executive level support and leadership to key departmental priorities. Works independently or with senior leadership. Sensitivity to confidential matters, a high level of professionalism, tact and diplomacy are paramount.
The ideal candidate will have a successful track record of managing special projects, collaborating, and building relationships with campus partners, and excellent interpersonal and written communication skills. Must be able to work occasional nights and weekends.

Minimum Required Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in recreation or related field plus three years of professional experience. Strong project management skills including the ability to contribute individually, lead, manage or participate in cross-functional teams. Organizational skills with the ability to see the big picture while managing details is a must. Must have demonstrated ability to work effectively and positively with people. Ability to effectively handle multiple tasks with great detail, meet deadlines, and think and perform independently. Flexibility and willingness to work irregular hours. Ability to work under pressure and respond quickly to changes. Excellent interpersonal communication and political acumen as well as problem-solving and decision-making skills; strong leadership skills, determination and ability to self-manage; ability to deal with uncertainty and to synthesize large amounts of information into actionable information. Excellent customer service and negotiation skills. Three years of demonstrated administrative and project management experience required. Excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral/written communication skills essential. Proficiency with personal computer to include MicroSoft Office suite. Ability to work cooperatively and collaboratively with diverse team of professionals.
Preferred Qualifications
Master’s degree preferred. Previous experience managing and/or executing events. Demonstrated knowledge of social media platforms. Experience with scheduling software such as EMS. CPR/First Aid/AED certification required or the ability to obtain within 6 months of hire.
