The Department of Surgery, Pediatric Cardiac division is seeking an Associate Staff Engineer to assist in the lab. The candidate will develop, implement, and support activities in translational research in pediatric monitoring technologies. The candidate will be part of a research team working on several ongoing projects including but not limited to optical, electrical, acoustic monitoring devices for patients with congenital heart disease. Design and conduct experiments in consultation with faculty in the Lab. Evaluate the status of ongoing research activities on these projects (and similar ones in the Lab) and will make recommendations on the project regarding design choices, testing protocols, experimental design, and data analysis.

Specific Duties & Responsibilities

  • Work within a team to support technical aspects of research and development of diagnostic and therapeutic devices/technologies, including, Prototype building and Testing and clinical study implementation/operations.
  • Supervise engineering students (undergraduate and graduate).
  • Identify new funding opportunities for projects.
  • Prepare and submit grants, abstracts and manuscripts.
  • Submit/present scientific findings to engineering and clinical meetings.
  • Prepare figures and slides describing technologies.
  • Submit intellectual property disclosures and assist with assembly of provisional patents.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Engineering.
  • 1 year of related work experience 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Masters Degree in Engineering preferred
  • Experience/education in sensors.
  • Experience/education in prototype design and CAD drawing.

JHU Equivalency Formula: 30 undergraduate degree credits (semester hours) or 18 graduate degree credits may substitute for one year of experience.
