In consultation with faculty leadership, the Associate Senior Instructional Professor is responsible for leading the design, development, implementation, and evaluation of curricular programs in Financial Mathematics; supervising other teaching personnel; recommending ways to optimize teaching in MSFM, including possible changes to personnel and/or curriculum; providing academic and career advice to students; and contributing to the development and academic administration of degree and non-degree programs in Financial Mathematics. In partial fulfillment of these responsibilities, the Associate Senior Instructional Professor will, among other duties, oversee the process of collecting and analyzing ratings, reviews, and observations of MSFM courses, instructors, and TAs/graders; participate in the recruitment and hiring of Lecturers; and participate in the formulation and communication of policies, procedures, and best practices regarding the duties of Lecturers.
The Associate Senior Instructional Professor’s responsibilities extend to offerings of the Financial Mathematics program outside of the MS degree sequence; in particular the Associate Senior Instructional Professor will help develop and manage the undergraduate Summer Scholars program in Financial Mathematics, the non-degree professional certificate programs in Financial Mathematics, and joint Bachelors-MS degrees in Financial Mathematics.
The Associate Senior Instructional Professor is to teach 200 units annually in courses to be assigned by the MSFM program. Teach additional coursework (in the MSFM curriculum or in workshop/non-degree/certificate offerings) on an ESP basis by mutual agreement.
As Deputy Director, manage all staff, including career development office (CDO), student/faculty services, and IT. Organize the process of hiring staff for open positions, such as for marketing/recruiting/admissions. Delegate tasks and hold staff accountable for task completion. Serve as a mentor/trainer to junior staff. Promote teamwork among staff. Approve appropriate payments (or reimbursements of payments by staff) of a routine nature to vendors. Update operational policies and procedures to maintain best practices. Propose and implement efficiency improvements / cost-saving measures / restructurings.
Advise on issues raised by, and handle issues escalated by units within Financial Math (CDO, student/faculty services, IT, and recruiting/marketing/admissions) or delegated by Director. Take front-line responsibilities in those units, when necessitated by extended absences or vacancies. Escalate issues to Director as needed.
Graduate degree in finance/business/economics or mathematics from a top-tier university.
3+ years of education-sector work experience, in a management/leadership role in a professional graduate degree program, preferably in financial mathematics/engineering.
10+ years of teaching experience, with a record of excellence, in professional graduate degree programs, in business or financial mathematics/engineering, with the majority of that time as lead instructor in one or more courses.
Research experience and professional experience sufficient to establish superior professional credentials, in economics or finance or financial mathematics/engineering.
Leadership, planning, management, organizational, supervisory skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Proven excellence in statistical analysis of data.
