Pfizer's purpose is to deliver breakthroughs that change patients' lives. Research and Development is at the heart of fulfilling Pfizer's purpose as we work to translate advanced science and technologies into the therapies and vaccines that matter most. Whether you are in the discovery sciences, ensuring drug safety and efficacy or supporting clinical trials, you will apply cutting edge design and process development capabilities to accelerate and bring the best-in-class medicines to patients around the world.

What You Will Achieve

Pfizer's BioMedicine Design (BMD) is seeking a highly motivated Cell and Molecular Biologist to join Biotherapeutics Expression and Purification group (BEP) located in Pfizer Worldwide Biotherapeutics Research campus of Cambridge MA . Qualified candidate will play an essential role in support of large-scale non-GMP transient protein lead production across Pfizer's diverse biotherapeutics discovery portfolio to enable Pfizer's research units and their pre-clinical therapeutics in-vitro and in-vivo needs. This individual will work in the area of therapeutic protein production and engineering in mammalian cells. The individual will perform mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, large-scale mammalian cell expression, and protein production analysis for supporting protein therapeutics discovery efforts. The individual will perform this function with supervision, toward considerable independence, and will display initiative in learning new techniques . The candidate will contribute to the group wide deliverables and be required to work on several projects simultaneously presenting results and updates at group meetings.

How You Will Achieve It

  • Carry out large scale mammalian cell culture, molecular biology, large scale transient transfection, expression analysis with HPLC Protein A capturing, analytical SEC, immunoblotting, Octet analysis, SDS-PAGE analysis, and scale-up production processes.
  • Maintain and operate various cell hosts and mutant lines (HEK293 and CHO) for cell culture scale-up, perform downstream mammalian cell culture harvesting and processing.
  • Carry out routine plasmid DNA complexation with Tecan Fluent automation system and molecular biology.
  • Perform calculations and draws conclusions regarding progresses and results of work.
  • Assist with the organization and maintenance of cell line stocks and plasmid DNA stocks.
  • Quickly learns and accurately performs new procedures involving a range of technologies.
  • Demonstrate oral and written presentation skills.
  • Drive technology innovation: design and conduct testing of new process methods, technologies, and products for production analysis.
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams including therapeutic discovery teams, research units, bioanalytical teams, and R&D project leads.
  • Prepare, evaluate, and present data internally to cross functional teams. - Prepare and present project summaries at team meetings, departmental meetings, and through summary reports.
  • Contribute to the preparation of papers for peer review journals.
