What we want
The Health Science Center (HSC) is looking for an Associate Research Scientist to serve as a member of the Microbial Pathogenesis & Immunology team. We desire an individual who subscribes to and supports our commitment as stated above. The successful applicant will bring an expert level of Research experience to the position and understand the demands of supporting executives in a fast-paced environment. This person must be professional, enjoy working in a high-volume environment and be able to apply strong organizational skills while being flexible in their daily routine. Required Education:
- Appropriate PhD
Required Experience:
- 3 Years relevant professional experience
Required Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability to multi-task and work cooperatively with others.
- Excellent computer literacy

- Excellent verbal and written communication
- Ability to perform all tasks and job responsibilities safely without injury to self and others in compliance with A&M System and HSC guidelines.

- Enthusiasm for research and learning scientific techniques, skills and methods.
- Superb communication and record-keeping skills
Preferred Education:
- PhD in a life science discipline, microbiology, immunology, biotechnology development or related fields.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
- Strong track record of peer-reviewed publications in the life sciences.
- Experience in the performing research in the fields of microbiology, biotechnology, immunology and/or host pathogen interactions.
- Experience in confocal microscopy, flow cytometry and animal models of disease.
- Experience working with diverse individuals and communities.
- Experience in molecular biology and virology.
- Experience in working with confocal microscopy, flow cytometry, animal models of disease.
Preferred Special Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
- Ability and willing to work in a fast-paced, highly collaborative, deadline-oriented research environment.
- Ability and willing to work with samples derived from humans and BSL2 organisms.
Job Responsibilities:
- Basic and/or Applied/Translational Research
- Perform basic research to support overall project goals.
- Perform standard laboratory techniques.
- Skills may include PCR, RT-PCR, gel electrophoresis, DNA preparation and other techniques.
Document and Report Findings
- Keep detailed records of findings and prepare periodic reports, including manuscripts, describing research progress.
- Document all procedural steps and data in the approved scientific manner, and complete calculations and graphic/tabulation of data in a timely fashion.
- Conduct literature searches related to assigned projects; read, assess, and discuss relevant publications in the field; assist with preparation of results for publication and presentation.
- Prepare and communicate presentations of work as presentations and publications.
Coordinate activities with research team members
- Support collaborative interactions with other research team members.
- Provide lab support with purchasing lab consumables and other lab support duties.
Review and understand the peer-review literature
- Maintain an up-to-date understanding of the peer reviewed literature that pertains to overall project goals and specific tasks required of the project.
Other Duties
- Maintain a safe, clean, functional and organized workspace, both in personal and communal space.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
- Requires standing for long periods of time. Bending, stooping, lifting, walking, carrying, reaching, and sitting.
