Job Description:

The Fitzgerald Lab in the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Columbia University Irving Medical Center seeks to fill the position for Associate Research Scientist. The position will include designing and conducting research studies, submitting grants and manuscripts, planning, and performing data analyses. The appointee will work under the supervision of Dr. Kate Fitzgerald and Dr. Dani Dumitriu to investigate brain-behavioral predictors of anxiety and depression in children.

Applicants for this role are expected to possess a robust foundation in child and adolescent psychiatry, expertise in electrophysiology (EEG), and proficiency in machine learning. Essential to this role are strong data analytic capabilities, particularly the ability to navigate and analyze large, high-dimensional psychiatric research datasets. Furthermore, candidates should demonstrate substantial computational skills, including expertise with statistical and scientific programming languages such as R or Python.

Key competencies also include excellent oral and written communication abilities, a distinguished publication record, and prior experience in research related to child and adolescent psychiatry. The position may also require occasional travel for conference attendance.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze EEG data derived from both traditional task-based and hyperscaning experiments involving infants and children, utilizing both tethered and wireless EEG systems.
  • Perform analyses on clinical and multimodal neuro-behavioral data employing advanced statistical techniques and machine-learning methodologies.
  • Write and submit research papers to reputable journals.
  • Develop, write, and submit grant proposals to secure funding for research projects.
  • Supervise and mentor student volunteers and research assistants.

Minimum Degree Required:

A Ph.D. in the field of Neuroscience, Cognitive Neuroscience, Psychology or similar.

Minimum Qualifications:

 

  • At least 4 years of prior experience working with electrophysiological data in the context of psychiatric disorders.
  • At least 2 years of experience with advanced statistical modeling, including imputation procedures and machine learning models.

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • At least 1 year of hyperscaning EEG research.
  • At least 2 years of prior experience working with high-dimensional datasets.
  • At least 2 years of experience of supervising/mentoring students.

Salary Range: 

$88,000 - $88,000
