The Department of Public Health Sciences is committed to excellence in research and teaching, to building a faculty and staff committed to preparing a diverse workforce, and to extending educational opportunities to students from diverse backgrounds. Our mission is to advance health equity and well-being in an urbanizing world. The Department has extensive ties with local and regional health departments, health care systems, and other community partners. In addition to our CEPH-accredited BSPH, MPH and PhD degree programs; we offer a BS in Health Systems Management, and a CAHME-accredited MHA program; and we collaborate with the School of Data Science in the delivery of an MS in Health Informatics and Analytics. The Department consists of 30 full-time faculty serving over 1,500 undergraduate and 200 graduate students. The Department is a member of the Association of Schools and Programs of Public Health (ASPPH) and the Association of University Programs in Health Administration (AUPHA). The Department is housed in the College of Health and Human Services, which also includes the Department of Applied Physiology, Health and Clinical Science; the School of Nursing; and the School of Social Work.

Description of Work

Thus, the Job Responsibilities and Essential Functions for Tenured and Tenure Track Faculty should be interpreted in the context of the related departmental and collegiate goals.
Teaching, Advising, Curriculum and Instructional Development – Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to teaching may include but are not limited to: subject matter competence, course design, course presentation, advising and consultation, directing student research, curriculum and instructional development, and grading student work.
Scholarly Research, Creative, and Other Professional Activities – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to participate in expanding the knowledge base of her/his academic field by conducting research or engaging in other creative activities as appropriate to the faculty member’s discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to research may include but are not limited to: research/creative activity that generates new knowledge and/or synthesizes and/or integrates existing knowledge, publication, an on-going agenda for research, scholarly, and creative activity, and are expected to seek extramural support for their work.
Service to University, the Public, and the Profession – All tenured and tenure-track faculty are expected to engage in a program of service appropriate to their discipline. Faculty responsibilities and essential functions with respect to service may include but are not limited to: service to the administration and governance of the University, public service, and service to the profession.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
This senior scholar will engage in research that advances the Department’s portfolio of health services and health policy research; teach in our Master in Health Administration, and/or MPH Health Policy concentration program(s); and contribute professional service to the institution, community, and discipline. Experienced candidates will be considered for the additional administrative appointment of MHA Program Director with related compensation. The expected start date is August 15, 2024.
Minimum Experience/Education

UNC Charlotte gives primary consideration to the earned doctorate or terminal degree in the teaching discipline or a related discipline.

Preferred Education, Skills and Experience
The scholar must be nationally recognized and someone who will contribute to our portfolio of interdisciplinary research on health care delivery and administration and/or the development and evaluation of health policy. The successful candidate will demonstrate extensive publication productivity and the ability to attract external funding. In addition to the research record described above, the successful candidate must demonstrate facility in teaching students from diverse backgrounds.
Minimum qualifications include an earned doctorate (e.g., PhD, DrPH) in health administration, health care management, health policy, or a related field and eligibility for appointment at the rank of Associate Professor with tenure in the Department of Public Health Sciences. The extent to which the candidate can contribute to our vision and mission , as well as the programs and goals of the Department of Public Health Sciences will be considered. Applicants with research agendas in the areas of: aging, substance abuse, health economics and/or finance or human resources are encouraged to apply. Preferred candidates will have an MHA.
