The Institute for Genome Sciences (IGS) at the University of Maryland School of Medicine is recruiting a non-tenure track faculty member, preferably at the Associate Professor rank. We are interested in candidates with experience in large-scale data management, visualization, and analysis of single-cell RNA sequencing data. Applicants must have a strong familiarity with health research environments to complement on-going projects within IGS and the School of Medicine.

 

IGS (www.igs.umaryland.edu ) currently has 27 highly collaborative faculty members with research interests in the areas of the human microbiome, host/pathogen interactions, infectious diseases, human genetic variation, neurogenomics, cancer genomics and other broad areas of genomics, systems biology and bioinformatics applied to improving human health. IGS has established significant infrastructure to support both research-based and clinical high-throughput sequencing, as well as high-complexity bioinformatic analyses, including extensive computational grid and storage capabilities available to all faculty.

 

IGS is part of the University of Maryland School of Medicine and is located on the University of Maryland Baltimore campus (www.umaryland.edu ), which houses the University System’s Medical, Dental, Pharmacy, Nursing, Social Work and Law schools as well as the Graduate School. The University has vibrant communities with clinical, research and teaching activities in genetics, genomics and personalized medicine that offer numerous opportunities for collaborative interdisciplinary research.

 

Qualifications

 

New faculty will be actively mentored to achieve success in an exceptionally collaborative environment comprised of highly productive research programs, state-of-the-art equipment, and outstanding core facilities. We offer highly competitive salary and recruitment packages. All institute faculty are members of the Institute for Genome Sciences and hold an academic appointment in a home department at the University of Maryland School of Medicine commensurate with their interests and expertise. Expected rank for this position will be Associate Professor on the non-tenure track.

 

The candidate should possess strong skills in computational biology, computer science, genomics, health informatics or related fields; they should have experience with preparation, administration and leadership in large federal grants and contracts. The activities of candidates should include collaborative projects with other academic researchers.  The research activities of candidates should currently be fully funded. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in mentorship and supervision of computational biologists, software engineers and IT specialists.
