Position Description:

The Department of Health Management and Systems Sciences (HMSS), School of Public Health & System Sciences (SPHIS), University of Louisville, is recruiting a tenure-track assistant professor with expertise in health data analytics, management, economics, or policy analysis. The ideal candidate has strong research skills and is expected to seek extramural funding for health services research, serve as an academic mentor to students, and engage in professional, university, and community service. We seek driven and innovative applicants with strong scholarly credentials, a record of peer-reviewed publications, and promise for external research funding. We expect the successful candidate to teach in our doctorate, master's, and undergraduate programs. The teaching load is expected to be one to four courses, depending on research and service involvement.

The SPHIS is accredited by CEPH and CAHME. The department's CAHME-accredited MSHA program (32nd by US News) is focused on developing top-tier healthcare management research, teaching, and national service. MSHA students are regularly selected for national Administrative Fellowships and frequently achieve top-quartile placements in national case study competitions.

Exemplary ongoing funded research by faculty includes: application of AI to cardiovascular disease, use of EHR data for medication reconciliation, primary care outcomes and quality metrics, use of Medicaid claims data in research on: (1) Hepatitis C, (2) behavioral health, (3) substance abuse, (4) cancer, and (5) diabetes. Other research includes pharmacovigilance, medication literacy, and personalized medication use, in addition to policy and systems of care. The Department and School closely collaborate with UofL Health System, UofL Family Medicine, the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), and the Louisville Metro Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW) in research, student internships, and public health training.   

The UofL SPHIS houses the Commonwealth Institute of Kentucky (CIK) , which has the mission of informing policy and practice that will improve the health of Kentuckians and beyond by facilitating and supporting transdisciplinary evidence-based collaborations. To enhance our capacity to link urban and public health researchers, CIK has been cultivating relationships with researchers from multiple disciplines and organizations across diverse sectors. We currently collaborate with the UofL Schools of Medicine, Nursing, Business, Arts and Sciences, the Kent School of Social Work, the College of Education and Human Development, the Department of Justice Administration, the Department of Urban and Public Affairs, and the Kentucky State Data Center. In addition, within the Louisville Metro Government, we closely work with the Department of Public Health and Wellness (LMPHW), the Office of Safe and Healthy Neighborhoods (OSHN), and the Police Department (LMPD). Other state and local partners include the Kentucky Cabinet for Health and Family Services (CHFS), the Kentucky Department of Public Health, the Kentucky Center for Education & Workforce Statistics, and many community-based, civic, and faith organizations.

The Department of Health Management & Systems Science has a longstanding reputation for its contributions to the design and improvement of health care and public health systems and policies, with graduates fulfilling leadership roles around the country and world. The new faculty members will also be expected to actively contribute to our various educational programs wherever appropriate, including the Master of Public Health, MS in Health Administration (MSHA), dual MPH-MSHA, dual MBA-MSHA, Master of Science in Health Data Analytics (MSHDA), and PhD in Public Health Sciences.      

UofL SPHIS is situated on the UofL Health Science Campus (HSC) of the University of Louisville, which is embedded in the City of Louisville's healthcare core, including the University of Louisville Health system (ULH), the Jewish Hospital System (recently acquired by ULH), and Norton Hospital System including Kosair Children's Hospital. UofL HSC includes the UofL Schools of Medicine, Dentistry, Nursing, and basic science translational research departments. Among the centers of excellence at the UofL HSC are the Envirome Institute, the Brown Cancer Center, the Trager Institute on Aging, and the Cardiovascular Institute.
