Position Summary:
The Department of Minority Studies at Indiana University Northwest invites applicants for an Associate or Full professor of African-American and African Diaspora Studies, commencing August 2024. This position in the Department of Minority Studies in the College of Arts and Sciences at Indiana University Northwest is a full-time position with the possibility of summer assignments and associated stipend in accordance with programmatic need.
Core responsibilities include an active research program with regular publications, a standard teaching load of three courses per semester in face-to-face and online modalities, and providing service to the department, discipline, campus, and the surrounding community. Applicants will be expected to assume a leadership role in the department that can include becoming the Director of the African-American and African-Diaspora Studies program, the Department Chair, and leading efforts in curriculum development and program growth.

One of seven campuses of Indiana University, IU Northwest is located in metropolitan Northwest Indiana, approximately 30 miles southeast of Chicago and 10 miles from the Indiana Dunes National Park. Basic Qualifications
Academic research area is open, but preference will be given to scholars whose focus complements our existing strengths.
Required Qualifications:
• An earned PhD in African American Studies, African Diaspora Studies, Race/Ethnic Studies or closely related discipline.
• Demonstrated ability to conduct research and/or creative activity.
• Demonstrated ability to develop curricula and academic programs.
• Demonstrated experience teaching African-American and African-Diaspora studies courses at the university level.
• Demonstrated interest in community-based service and engagement.
• Willingness to contribute to the mission, values, and DEIJ goals of the institution.
• A record of scholarly and professional accomplishment to qualify for appointment at the rank of associate professor (or professor) with tenure.
Preferred Qualifications:

• Experience with asynchronous online college-level teaching.
• Experience teaching a diverse student body and first-generation college students.
• Membership and engagement in academic and professional associations related to the discipline.
