The Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering Department (https://mae.osu.edu/) at The Ohio State University invites applications for a faculty of professional practice appointment at the assistant or associate professor level.

Position Overview

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering at The Ohio State University is seeking a Professor of Practice candidate at the Associate level. The ideal candidate will be able to teach a variety of topics in the Mechanical Engineering curriculum, with an emphasis on engineering design and manufacturing related courses, including the senior undergraduate capstone design sequence, as well as fluid mechanics, particularly computational fluid dynamics. The position is teaching focused; however, the successful candidate will also be expected to perform scholarly activity in a related area of interest, such as novel curriculum development, engineering education, or another research area consistent with their background and experience. Demonstrated academic leadership is especially desired, such as experience leading capstone design programs.

Performance Objectives

  • Contribute to teaching activities in the Mechanical Engineering program. 
  • Teach and mentor students at both the undergraduate and graduate level.
  • Participate in service to the university and the international research community.
  • For associate level position, assume academic leadership over certain programs in the program

Education and Experience Requirements

  • Applicants must have earned a doctorate in mechanical engineering, biomedical engineering, or a closely related engineering or science discipline.
  • Ability to teach and supervise undergraduate and graduate students in an inclusive way (all learners are valued and feel a sense of belonging)
  • Embrace development of open-minded exploration among learners
  • Potential to be a conscientious university community member
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills with desire and ability to work constructively, decisively, and collegially with external and internal colleagues and interdisciplinary teams.

    • activities undertaken to improve teaching / mentoring
    • Summary of goals and plans for courses you would like to implement in our program.

Department Information

The Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering is one of the largest departments in the College of Engineering at The Ohio State University. We are home to nearly 80 faculty and over 35 dedicated staff members. Approximately 1900 undergraduates are pursuing a degree in either Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering through rigorous programs that feature hands-on, project-based learning. Nearly 300 graduate students are seeking a degree in either Mechanical, Aerospace, or Nuclear Engineering. Our innovative and creative faculty adhere to the philosophy that true innovation depends upon the cooperation of academia, industry, and government working together to advance the goals of science and technology. Our students and faculty regularly collaborate with colleagues in other departments in the College of Engineering and with multiple other colleges across campus.
