Job Summary 
The University of Southern Mississippi invites applicants for a full-time, 9-month Tenure Track Associate or Full Professor position in the College of Nursing and Health Professions (CNHP) School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice. This 9-month, tenure track faculty position requires engaging in quality research projects, proposals and publications that promote the mission of the College, teaching predominantly doctoral-level courses with the potential to teach undergraduate and Master’s level courses (depending on goodness of fit and the College’s needs), mentoring graduate students and undergraduate Honor’s students, and providing service to the School, College, University, and professional organizations. The ideal candidate will have a passion for and ability to lead efforts in building research infrastructure and growing the CNHP’s research portfolio to maintain the University’s position as a Carnegie R1 and community engagement classified institution. This position is supported in part by philanthropic donations as a part of a concerted effort to advance the research mission of the College. Additionally, candidates for this position may be considered for an appointment as the PhD Program Coordinator depending on candidate’s experience and career goals.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Commitment to build and sustain a robust research agenda to include creation and dissemination of new knowledge and quality publications and presentations.
  •  Pursuit of external research support.
  • Develop and teach graduate courses and potentially upper-level undergraduate courses.
  • Contribute broadly to our thriving academic programs.
  • Mentor/advise graduate students. Possess a passion to educate graduate students.
  • Develop and maintain syllabi, lesson plans, and more for each course taught.
  • Adhere to class schedules as posted.
  • Follow the policies of the College of Nursing and Health Professions, the School of Leadership and Advanced Nursing Practice and/or the School of Professional Nursing Practice and affiliate clinical sites
  • Turn in course specific documentation as scheduled.
  • Communicate course requirements to students in a timely manner.
  • Available to assigned students for support and course advising including exams, required remediation, and summative evaluations.
  • Collaborate with the Program Coordinator to plan, implement, and evaluate each course offering to maintain quality and effectiveness.
  • Attend scheduled program, school, college, and university meetings.
  • Provide service to the school, college, university, and professional organization.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

  • Minimum Qualifications
    The successful candidate(s) will possess an earned doctorate in nursing or health-related discipline. Successful candidates must have, or have the potential for, a strong program of research appropriate to their experience and rank. Successful candidates must hold an unencumbered US registered nursing license. Salary and appointment to Associate Professor will be commensurate with qualifications and experience appropriate for that rank.

     


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
    • Evidence of current American Heart Association CPR training
    • Evidence of yearly tuberculin skin tests and other required immunizations as per nursing program policy and/or agency requirements.
    • Evidence of ten continuing education units annually
    • Knowledge of or willingness to learn Canvas, Medatrax, and other related educational platforms.
    • Strong written and oral communication skills.
    • Demonstrated ability to work effectively and collegially with students, staff, and faculty from diverse backgrounds, programs, and colleges.
    • Uphold the mission and values of the USM College of Nursing and Health Professions.

     
    Preferred Qualifications  
    Experience in developing and delivering courses and curriculum at the College level. Ability to successfully engage in the acquisition of federal research funding (NIH, NSF) to support current research initiatives (Disease Prevention, Healthy Aging, Social Determinants of Health, Health Interventions, Implementation Science, Community-Engaged Research).
