The Department of Pediatrics, Division of Pediatric Endocrinology, Joe R. & Teresa Lozano Long School of Medicine, at UT Health San Antonio is recruiting a faculty Pediatric Endocrinology and Diabetes Division Chief. Salary, rank, and tenure status are dependent upon qualifications and experience. The position requires strong clinical skills and a commitment to clinical research oversight. The Pediatric Endocrine division has 8 faculty providers, 3 diabetes educators, 3 nurses, 4 MAs, and one social worker in the clinic in addition to two research nurses, and administrative and inpatient teaching staff. The division supports four fellows’ positions for a 3-year ACGME accredited Pediatric Endocrinology fellowship. 

The candidate must be board-certified or board-eligible in Pediatric Endocrinology and eligible to hold an unrestricted Texas medical license. The candidate will distribute clinical responsibilities in outpatient clinics and inpatient consult service call. This individual will have the opportunity for protected time for academic clinical research in the Division.  Current research includes NIH, private and pharmaceutically funded projects focused on Type 2 Diabetes, Type 1 diabetes, bionic pancreas pediatric clinical trials, comorbidities of genetic obesity, and social determinants of health in diabetes. Other ongoing investigation includes our thyroid and cystic fibrosis centers of excellence for pediatric thyroid disorders and cystic fibrosis-related diabetes and liver disease research, a pheochromocytoma registry, and oncology research projects. Our division collaborates with the co-located adult diabetes care clinics and research facilities at the Texas Diabetes Institute led by Dr. Ralph DeFronzo.

The selected candidate will have the support to sustain and develop clinical research projects.  Our University Hospital-based clinics and inpatient wards have expanded with a new Women and Children’s Hospital which is co-located with our UT Health medical school academic offices. Our division also has a contracted agreement for per diem bonus reimbursements of inpatient consult care at the adjacent private Methodist Hospital to supplement salaries.
