Associate Professor of Surgery/Acute Care Surgery Division Chief
Rutgers-Robert Wood Johnson Medical School {RWJMS) is seeking an acute care surgeon for a faculty appointment in the Department of Surgery as Associate Professor of Surgery, Acute Care Surgery Division Chief. The Division Chief is dedicated to developing and maintaining programs and activities to ensure the optimum quality of clinical care and educational programs within the Division of Acute Care Surgery providing leadership and management for the Division. Responsible for establishing and leading the Division’s strategic direction pertaining to programmatic, research and educational development. organizes, directs, staff and faculty within the Division of Acute Care  Surgery to  ensure the highest quality of medical care; fosters the growth and development of division programs; develops strategies and opportunities to improve services and increase patient volumes. Develops and monitors key performance metrics such as quality outcome measures and internal/external quality indicators in order to maintain divisional quality control and quality improvement; provides timely feedback to individuals on performance metrics so that quality issues are addressed in a timely manner. Develops and arranges the organization of the division to provide adequate supervision and evaluation of the clinical work, develops and implements policies and procedures as needed to maintain and improve services and programs.
The position includes clinical responsibilities on each of the three services {Trauma, Emergency General Surgery, Critical Care); Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital {RWJUH) in  New Brunswick, NJ is the core teaching hospital for RWJMS and one of only three ACS verified Level I Trauma Centers in the state. RWJUH is a tertiary referral center for cardiac, vascular and neuroscience services, as well as home to the Cancer Institute of New Jersey. It is t he flagship hospital for RWJBarnabas Health – the largest health system in NJ serving a population of 5 million.

Minimum Education and Experience
MD required. Must have completed a Residency Training Program in General Surgery and, fellowship trained. Candidates should be boarded by the American Board of Surgery.

Overview
Develops and maintains programs and activities to ensure the optimum quality of clinical care and educational programs within the Division of Acute Care Surgery providing leadership and management for the Division.

Plans, organizes, directs, staff and faculty within the Division of Acute Care  Surgery to  ensure the highest quality of medical care; fosters the growth and development of division programs; develops strategies and opportunities to improve services and increase patient volumes.
Develops and monitors key performance metrics such as quality outcome measures and internal/external quality indicators in order to maintain divisional quality control and quality improvement; provides timely feedback to individuals on performance metrics so that quality issues are addressed in a timely manner.
Develops and arranges the organization of the division to provide adequate supervision and evaluation of the clinical work, develops and implements policies and procedures as needed to maintain and improve services and programs.
Arranges and facilitates divisional meetings, guest speaker courses and other presentations/classes pertaining to the clinical practice in order to ensure the highest quality of education for faculty.
Recruits and retains high quality physicians to complement existing medical staff and meet patient needs; collaborates with private practice and/or volunteer faculty to build and enhance medical programs.
Responsible for the ongoing development, growth and oversight of the Trauma Program as the Trauma Medical Director.  
Coordinates research effort in the Division of Acute Care Surgery to include funding and supervising clinical research and the publication of results.
Represents Acute Care in QA, Performance Improvement and other multidisciplinary efforts to enhance patient care.
 
Oversees Acute Care and Surgical Critical Care Fellowship Programs.  
Responsible for establishing additional Acute Care service lines within the practice.
Coordinates call responsibilities within the Division of Acute Care Surgery.
Serves on Rutgers Robert Wood Johnson Medical School and Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital committees.
