Job Description

The Department of Statistics in the College of Science at Virginia Tech invites applications for an Associate, or Full Professor of Practice, dependent on qualifications and experience, to support research at Virginia Tech’s National Security Institute (VTNSI), collaborate through the department’s Statistical Applications and Innovations Group (SAIG) and teach in the statistics department curriculum. The academic-year position is available beginning Summer 2024 or Fall 2024. Classes will be conducted in-person at the Blacksburg campus.


Required Qualifications


A PhD or higher in Statistics, Biostatistics or closely related field is required.

In addition, candidates must have significant industrial collaboration and/or teaching experience.

Preference will be given to candidates with experience collaborating with engineers and scientists.

Candidates must have the expertise or experience to teach courses to both statistics majors as well as graduate students from other departments.

Given the nature of the research conducted and the requirements from federal sponsors, the candidate must be a US citizen.


Preferred Qualifications


Preference will be given to candidates with experience interacting with a diverse student or client population.

Experience teaching training courses to non-statisticians, and managing partnerships/collaborations between external partners and academia.

An active role in professional societies/service and technical communities including leadership and conference attendance is desired. Ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
