Scope of Job
Conduct research in human genetics, teach and mentor Ph.D. students in human genetics, and participate in medical education of medical students. The UTRGV Department of Human Genetics is recruiting three Associate or Full Professors of Human Genetics (Tenure Track) with expertise and research interests that will complement those of existing faculty. Areas of interest include genetic epidemiology, statistical genetics, molecular genetics, nutrigenomics, proteomics, metabolomics, and exposomics. Successful applicants will be able to leverage unique departmental resources including a 12,000-processor computer cluster dedicated to genetic analysis, a colony of ~1,000 laboratory opossums (Monodelphis domestica), large biorepository of samples from extended human pedigrees, and an induced pluripotent stem cell program. The successful applicant will have a strong publication record, and prior experience with NIH funded grants is preferred. The successful candidates will be expected to develop a competitively funded research program and to take part in large scale team science projects focused on our existing longitudinal human population cohorts. Successful candidates also will be expected to take part in our Human Genetics Ph.D. program, which will launch in the fall of 2022. Experience with graduate education is preferred, and one of the successful candidates will have the opportunity to be the Director of the Ph.D. program. These positions will be based at our campus in Brownsville, Texas.

Active grant funding for research program; history of NIH grant funding; experience with graduate education.

UTRGV is a distributed institution. As such and as assigned, the position may
require presence at multiple locations throughout the Rio Grande Valley. Work is
performed primarily in a general office environment. This position is security sensitive
and thereby subject to the provisions of the Texas Education Code
§51.215. The retirement plan for this position is Teacher Retirement System of
Texas (TRS), subject to the position being at least 20 hours per week and at least
135 days in length. This position has the option to elect the Optional Retirement
Program (ORP) instead of TRS, subject to the position being 40 hours per week
and at least 135 days in length.
