Position Overview
The Associate Law Librarian for Assessment and Access Services teaches law school courses; participates in the management of law library operations and personnel, including assessment of the legal research curriculum and law library services and resources; provides instruction and specialized research services and resources to law students, law faculty, the Marquette community, the legal community, and members of the public through service at the reference desk and in support of law school classes and other programs; participates in the faculty liaison program; collaborates in the evaluation, selection, and instruction of information resources; and provides leadership, coordination, and supervision of access services. May serve on law library, law school, and university committees. The Associate Law Librarian reports to the Director of the Law Library. Direct reports include part-time law library circulation assistants, with secondary supervision of full-time law library staff who provide services at the circulation desk.
Duties and Responsibilities
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
  • J.D. from an ABA-accredited law school, and an M.L.I.S. (or equivalent) from an ALA-accredited library school.
  • At least three years of experience teaching legal research in an academic setting, including demonstrated knowledge of online legal research systems, web-based legal resources, and print legal research materials.
  • At least five years of experience as a law librarian or practicing attorney, including at least three years of professional experience working in an academic law library.
  • Flexibility and the ability to work independently and cooperatively as part of a team, prioritizing projects and tasks.
  • Strong service orientation and ability to work with a diverse patron population.
  • Excellent interpersonal, organizational, and communication skills, including the ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Experience working in a legal practice setting.
Experience with library circulation duties and integrated library management systems.
Supervisory experience or experience leading teams.
