Description

The Associate Director of Information Systems is a key member of the leadership team and reports directly to the Director of the Semel Institute Information Technology Department. Primary responsibilities include: * Strategic Planning and System Oversight: • Establishes sub-unit goals, designs new programs and services, and organizes staff effectively to achieve goals. • Provides direct supervision to a team of professionals, managing workloads by coordinating, assigning, and developing project plans and timelines. • Recommends hiring of new employees, managing salary actions, terminations, and conducting annual performance reviews in accordance with HR procedures. • Sets assignments, establishes schedules, approves timesheets, and conducts annual reviews in accordance with HR procedures. • Provides overall support to staff for system testing and mandatory compliance reporting requirements. • Provides oversight in training and quality control to run annual systems testing and audit compliance checks. • Stay current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends, identifying opportunities to enhance the organization’s IT capabilities. • Utilize information technology systems to address challenging business processes and drive innovation across the organization. • Support the organization’s research and academic initiatives with a secure and innovative technology infrastructure that enables collaboration, data sharing, and advanced analytics. Business Process Optimization and Solution Development: • Conduct in-depth analysis of business processes and challenges, collaborating with stakeholders to identify areas for improvement • Create comprehensive solutions that involve process design, data and information architecture, and policy or procedural changes to drive efficiency and effectiveness. • Design detailed technical specifications for systems, validate requirements, and develop automated solutions that align with the organization’s needs and goals. • Continuously monitor and assess the performance of implemented solutions, making adjustments as necessary to optimize results. System Administration and Maintenance: • Manage the day-to-day administration of IT systems, including user account management, system updates, backups, and troubleshooting. • Monitor system performance and capacity, proactively identifying potential issues and implementing solutions to ensure optimal performance and uptime. • Collaborate with IT support staff to resolve hardware, software, and network issues, providing technical guidance and expertise when needed. • Develop and maintain system documentation, including configuration settings, network diagrams, and standard operating procedures. Team Leadership and Cross-functional Collaboration: • Lead, mentor, and develop a diverse team of IT professionals with varying expertise, setting clear expectations and providing regular feedback. • Foster a culture of collaboration, innovation, and continuous improvement within the team. • Work collaboratively with other CSCs and department leaders to optimize resources, share best practices, and maintain the electronic security and privacy of data. • Implement policies that directly impact subordinate staff and address complex business or systems issues, promoting a positive and productive work environment. Supervisory Duties: • Recruitment: Engage actively in the refinement of the interview and hiring processes. Provide final recommendations to senior leadership, ensuring alignment with departmental goals and the organization’s culture. • Performance Evaluation: Direct and shape the approach to performance evaluations. Champion a consistent, fair, and comprehensive evaluation method while personally overseeing evaluations for immediate team members. • Task Delegation: Exhibit discernment in determining team tasks, ensuring optimal alignment of duties to individual strengths and project requirements • Compensation Decisions: Contribute to compensation discussions, making recommendations for merit-based incentives, role promotions, and other forms of staff recognition. • Corrective Actions: Proactively address performance inconsistencies or issues, determining and enforcing appropriate disciplinary actions when necessary. • Conflict Resolution: Hold the responsibility and authority to address and settle any work-related grievances or complaints, ensuring that resolutions align with organizational standards and policies. Pay Range: $105,200.00 – $250,000.00 annually.

Skills & Knowledge: * Strong foundation in information technology: * System administration * Networking * Security * Strategic planning in an IT context * Development and implementation of IT policies * Management of complex technology projects * Design and development of innovative solutions to address business challenges * Understanding of business processes and data/information architecture * Computing/Software Knowledge: * Operating Systems: Windows Server, Linux, macOS * Networking: Cisco systems, Brocade, Aruba, etc. * Virtualization: VMware, Hyper-V * Cloud Platforms: AWS, Azure, Google Cloud Platform * Security Tools: Firewalls (e.g., Sonicwall, Fortinet), Endpoint Security (e.g., Defender, McAfee, Malwarebytes) * Database Systems: SQL Server, Oracle, PostgreSQL * Collaboration Tools: Microsoft 365, Slack, Teams Experience: * Extensive experience in strategic IT planning and policy implementation * Proven track record of managing diverse teams of IT professionals * Collaborating with central ITs, department leaders, and other stakeholders * Staying current with industry best practices, emerging technologies, and trends * Minimum of 8-12 years in the IT field, with at least 5 years in a leadership or managerial role Abilities: * Strong leadership and team management * Direct supervision of technical teams * Guiding and mentoring team members towards achieving departmental goals * Facilitating team collaboration and fostering a harmonious working environment * Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for cross-departmental collaboration * Foster a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and collaboration * Identify opportunities to enhance the organization’s IT capabilities based on industry trends Attributes: * Commitment to the organization’s mission * Dedication to supporting research and academic initiatives through secure technology infrastructure * Emphasis on strategic thinking combined with technical expertise
