Associate in Research 
Department of Psychology and Neuroscience 
Occupational Summary 
The Department of Psychology and Neuroscience at Duke University seeks to hire an Associate in Research as a teaching associate to support the education mission of the department by providing instruction and technical support to the department’s undergraduate courses, with a particular focus on Psych 101 (Introductory Psychology). The Associate in Research will support Psych 101 both fall and spring terms, in addition to one other course (which one will depend on departmental needs, the candidate's qualifications, and the candidate’s pedagogical activities). The Associate in Research will also help with advising of undergraduate majors. 
This position will report to the Department Business Manager for all administrative roles and to the faculty members designated by the Department Chair for all instructional roles. During the academic year, this position will have complete responsibility to support our courses. During the summer months, this position may be involved in teaching summer courses and improving the course materials and infrastructure for the coming academic year. 
The responsibilities include the following categories: 
Logistical: 
• Managing STINF, dean’s excuses, special accommodation requests for students with disabilities, other extensions, grade corrections, etc. 
• Scheduling and coordinating proctoring makeup exams or exams with special accommodations for students with disabilities. 
Management: 
• Helping to create/improve/monitor workflows and organizational aspects for large courses. 
• Monitoring student performance/progress, following up with those who have missed classes, assignments, exams, or have available accommodations from the instructor; identifying and helping to reach out to underperforming students early in the semester. 
• Ensuring that TAs and graders provide timely feedback, including monitoring of various task queues and discussion forums. 
• Monitoring and enforcing academic integrity rules, including running automated plagiarism detection tools proactively and ensuring that proper procedures are followed. 
Teaching: 
• Supporting various instructional technologies for assignment submissions, autograding, student feedback. 
• Supporting the transition to Canvas 
• Assisting with design and troubleshooting of course materials (assignments, labs, projects, exams, lectures, syllabus, answer keys, etc.) to make them scalable. 
• Monitoring and helping to supervise student projects; ensuring healthy group dynamics. 
• Instructional activities such as leading alternative and/or supplementary sections, substituting for faculty, coordinating with other entities on campus that offer relevant resource and/or services to help such students. 
Advising: 
• Providing majors with advice on course selections.

This is a full time position, eligible for all Duke benefits (https://hr.duke.edu/benefits ) with an initial appointment of one year with the possibility of renewal, dependent on funding and performance.

Minimum Qualifications: 
Education: 
Work requires analytical, communications and organizational skills generally acquired through completion of a bachelor's degree program. Master’s degree preferred. 
Experience: 
Work requires one year of experience in program administration OR AN EQUIVALENT COMBINATION OF RELEVANT EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE involving academic, instructional or counseling activities to acquire skills necessary to plan, coordinate and implement a variety of program activities and events.
