Position Details:


The Department of Crop and Soil Sciences at Washington State University conducts research, education, and outreach on critical issues of food production and sustainable agroecology.

Summary of Duties:

Recruitment for a post-MS or post-PhD candidate with experience in research, statistical analyses, writing, and publishing in Soil Science or closely related field. The position will support a program in Soil Science and Sustainable Agriculture including multiple projects in soil fertility management, organic weed management, organic soil amendments, soil microbiology, and public surveys. The candidate will work with graduate students and faculty to complete plant and soil analyses, statistically analyze data, interpret data and develop research articles, respond to reviewers for publication, and develop funding proposals.

Required Qualifications:

Associate in Research:

  • Masters degree in Soil Science or closely related field

  • At least 2 peer-reviewed articles published as primary author

Postdoctoral Research Associate:

  • PhD in Soil Science or closely related field

  • At least 2 peer-refereed articles published as primary author

Preferred Qualifications (Both Levels):

  • Research focus in soil biology, soil fertility, or sustainable agriculture

  • Outstanding skills in scholarly writing and editing

  • Outstanding record, commensurate with career stage, of publishing in peer-reviewed journals

  • Experience in writing federal grant proposals

  • Evidence of working well with diverse students and colleagues

$4,250.00 - $4,583.00 at 100% FTE ($3,187.50 - $3,437.25 prorated for 75% FTE)

Postdoctoral Research Associate

$4,583.00 - $5,166.00 at 100% FTE ($3,437.25 - $3,874.50 prorated for 75% FTE)

In accordance with RCW 49.58.110 , the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate’s current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination.
