The Gersbach Lab at Duke University, Pratt School of Engineering, Department of Biomedical Engineering is seeking an Associate in Research to work in the field of epigenetics, particularly within the setting of human diseases. This position assists in projects exploring mechanisms of epigenetic establishment and inheritance using CRISPR/dCas9-based epigenome editing tools, high-throughput screening, and human induced pluripotent stem cells (hiPSCs) or transgenic mice to model rare disorders. We are looking for a highly motivated and talented candidate with extensive research experience (2 years minimum, bachelor and/or master in biology or related field) with excellent wet lab bench skills using molecular and cell culture techniques. The successful candidate will be expected to complete laboratory experiments and assist with cell culture, molecular biology, next generation sequencing library preparation, biochemistry, epigenetic analyses, molecular imaging, and other common techniques to aid in experimental procedures. The laboratory duty requirements are ideal for someone who is detail oriented and can easily manage several ongoing tasks with competing deadlines. This position will work with a graduate student and a postdoctoral fellow; therefore, we seek someone who can maintain teamwork, is cooperative, and can be flexible with scheduling labwork.
Required qualifications:
Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in a discipline related to the area of assignment, or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
Two years of related experience with standard laboratory procedures in molecular biology.
The ideal candidate should be hard-working and eager to learn.
Ability to work in a team setting and independently with minimum supervision.
Ability to execute planned cell and molecular biological experiments, analyze data, and present data
Strong oral and written communication skills.
Strong critical thinking skills and excellent attention to detail.
Must have basic computational skills such as knowledge of Excel, Word, and PowerPoint. The following skills are highly desired (any combination): Experience with mammalian tissue culture Molecular cloning techniques and plasmid purification PCR and qPCR reaction design/troubleshooting Immunofluorescence/immunohistochemistry, protein immunoassays (WB/IP) Next generation sequencing library preparation Experience with mouse work
