Summary of Job Duties:

The Associate General Counsel will advise administrators of the University on legal issues affecting the campuses and units of the University, and, in particular, the University of Arkansas Division of Agriculture. The position will be located at the Division of Agriculture’s Cooperative Extension office, which is in Little Rock, Arkansas.

Qualifications:

Minimum Qualifications
* Juris Doctor degree from an accredited American Bar Association law school
* License to practice law in the State of Arkansas
* At least five years of experience (subject to waiver for exceptionally relevant experience)
in the practice of law with a governmental, corporate or nonprofit entity or in private practice
 

Preferred Qualifications
* Master of Laws (LL.M.) in agriculture, taxation, finance or other pertinent fields associated with assigned duties

* Well-versed in the laws and regulations that are unique and pertinent to agricultural research

* Experience in higher education-related legal issues

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
* Knowledge of contract law and property law, including but not limited to, drafting/reviewing contracts, deeds, leases, and gift agreements

* Ability to conduct effective legal review and provide sound legal advice on trusts, estates and tax matters

* Ability to provide advice and counsel in other general matters involving higher education, including issues involving employment and governmental compliance, research and environmental compliance

* Outstanding written and oral communication skills
* Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to work professionally under pressure
* Ability to maintain confidentiality
* Ability to have a strong commitment to teamwork, customer service and collaboration
* Maturity, sound judgment, good work ethic and ability to work closely with the other members of the General Counsel’s office
