Job Summary
The Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences invites applications for a full-time (1.00 FTE), 9-month, tenure-track/tenured Associate or Full Professor position.

This faculty member will hold the Withycombe Chair in Reproductive Biology in the Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences of Oregon State University.
Specific sub-disciplines related to reproductive biology in cattle may include endocrinology, epigenetics, gene editing, uterine biology, ovarian biology, placental biology, early pregnancy loss, sperm quality, spermatogenesis, and/or climate effects on reproduction efficiency. The Department of Animal and Rangeland Sciences has two beef ranches within 15 miles of the Corvallis campus. The Soap Creek Ranch has 980 grazable acres divided into 26 pastures and the Berry Creek Ranch has 282 grazable acres divided into 12 pastures. There are approximately 144 head of cows and heifers and 5 bulls on the ranches. The Dairy Farm is within 2 miles of campus. The dairy farm has 90 grazable acres divided into 16 paddocks plus 40 additional acres. There are approximately 120 lactating cows and 100 replacement heifers on the dairy farm.

The incumbent for the Withycombe Chair in Reproductive Biology will exhibit a strong potential to develop a competitively strong research program that will contribute to progressing the understanding of beef and dairy cattle reproductive biology forward. In addition, the incumbent will enhance the reproductive biology research and education program at Oregon State University. The person in this position will be expected to establish an internationally recognized, externally funded research program, mentor graduate and undergraduate student research, teach undergraduate and graduate courses, and participate in service needs. This position will instruct courses specific to the person’s training.

Key Responsibilities
70% Research and Scholarship
  • Develop and maintain an externally funded research program in aspects of cattle reproductive biology, that adheres to OSU’s requirements for research integrity, compliance and safety.
  • Serve as an investigator on a USDA-NIFA Hatch collaborative project or participate in a Hatch multistate project.
  • Mentoring of graduate research assistants or undergraduate researchers who contribute to the incumbent’s programs and research accomplishments.
  • Research is expected to lead to scholarly outcomes, including but not limited to refereed journal articles, oral and poster presentations, abstracts and proceedings of professional meetings.
  • Research management duties such as grant applications, compliance, budget management, and supervision of student workers, post-doctoral scholars, seasonal workers, or faculty research assistants.

25% Teaching and Advising
  • Instruct courses in animal science at the undergraduate and/or graduate level; approximately 4 to 5 credits per year as per Animal and Rangeland Sciences Teaching Workload Policy.
  • Instruction via on-campus and/or E-campus platforms.
  • Provide mentorship to graduate students in their advanced degree programs.
  • Serve on grad student committees for which incumbent does not serve as major professor.
  • Participate in graduate and undergraduate level seminars, workshops, guest lectures, and/or discussion groups.

5% Service
  • Faculty are expected to be collegial members of their units, and to perform appropriate service that contributes to the effectiveness, diversity and inclusiveness of their departments, colleges, the University, and their professions. University service includes serving the University-wide community of research, teaching, and extension faculty including development of community resources. Professional service includes, but is not limited to, reviewing manuscripts for journals and proposals for national funding agencies, and involvement in professional organization.
What You Will Need
PhD or Equivalent degree in Animal Science, Reproductive Biology, or closely related field or a sub-discipline related to reproductive biology.
Qualifications and appropriate experience to be hired at the Associate or Full Professor rank.
For Rank of Full Professor – Evidence of distinction in teaching and/or scholarship as evident in the candidate’s wide recognition and significant contributions to the field of reproductive biology.
Demonstrated commitment to promoting and enhancing diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Evidence of leading a nationally recognized research program.
Evidence of successful publishing record in the area of cattle or ruminant reproduction.
Evidence of a successful, externally funded research program.
Evidence of effective teaching and advising students.

Working Conditions / Work Schedule
