Job Overview

The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics (AEEM) in the College of Engineering and Applied Science (CEAS) at the University of Cincinnati, located in Cincinnati, Ohio invites applications for full time tenured or tenure-track faculty positions.  Applicants will be considered at the level of Associate Professor or Ohio Eminent Scholar Professor in the areas of Structures & Materials (S&M) and Fluids & Propulsion (F&P). Rank and tenure will be determined based on the candidate's credentials.  All areas of aerospace S&M and F&P are of interest, including but not limited to: designing, manufacturing, and testing of aerospace materials, components and structures, aircraft design, electric propulsion, space propulsion, thermal management, sustainable fuels, energy conversion, active flow control, hypersonics, rotorcraft aerodynamics, microfluidics, and CFD.


Essential Functions

The successful candidates will be expected to teach graduate and undergraduate engineering courses specific to their specialty area online and/or in a traditional classroom setting, participate in service related activities (e.g., committee membership or editorial review), develop an externally funded research program in the applicable engineering field of expertise, advise graduate and undergraduate students, and publish research results in professional journals. In addition, the successful candidate may participate in curriculum and course development. 


Minimum Qualifications

All of the following prior to effective date of appointment:

  • Candidates must have a Doctoral Degree in the field of Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field.
  • Candidates must have a total of at least five years of experience, which is delineated as follows:
    • five years of research experience subsequent to the PhD in academia, government or industry in the area of Aeronautical or Aerospace Engineering or a closely related field;
    • two academic years of undergraduate- or graduate-level teaching experience at an ABET-accredited academic institution in the areas of S&M and F&P.
  • In addition to the above requirements, candidates at the Professor level must have a demonstrated research record as evidenced by peer reviewed journal publications, service to professional societies, and sustained extramural funding in the areas of S&M or F&P.

Additional Information

The Department of Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics offers a fully ABET-accredited five-year B.S. degree in aerospace engineering with a mandatory co-op program and M.S. and PhD degrees in both Aerospace Engineering and Engineering Mechanics. In addition, the Department has an Accelerated Engineering Degree (ACCEND) program where highly motivated students can get both B.S. and M.S. or B.S. and M.B.A. degrees in five years and a semester.
