Job Description Summary
Primarily responsible for the teaching/learning process and will also participate in the necessary operations of the institution. Work hours: Mon-Fri; 8 AM-5 PM or as work and teaching requirements indicate. Position may be housed in Stephenville, Fort Worth, or Waco. Will be traveling to all campus locations.
-50% Administrative: The Department Head is responsible for providing leadership and support for faculty and staff for Social Work and Communication Disorders; creating a positive environment for teaching, research, and service, and working collaboratively with faculty, University administrators and other constituent groups to maintain the continued quality of curricula and in development of new programs. The Department Head is obligated to: Recruit, hire, train and evaluate faculty and staff within the academic unit. Engage in strategic planning and institutional effectiveness. Supervise student advising and registration. Maintain professional involvement in regional, national and System activities. Manage social work student enrollment. Successfully prepare and manage departmental budget on an annual basis. Facilitate curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation. Represent the academic department by serving on university committees as requested. Negotiate affiliations agreements with health care agencies and health care professionals. Work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, University administrators, and other constituent groups to meet the mission, goals and outcomes of the program. Support departmental, college, and university events including recruitment, orientations, graduations and other functions as needed.
-40% Teaching: Teach 15 hours per academic year. Develop, implement and review effective teaching/learning processes, incorporating appropriate methodology, technology and other tools. Remain current in discipline and update course content when appropriate to reflect current levels of student knowledge in the discipline. Develop a system for ongoing evaluation of both teaching and learning, including expectations of student competency and student learning outcomes. Work in partnership with immediate supervisor through a formal system of evaluation of instruction to identify strengths and weaknesses and identify professional development activities to improve student learning.
-10% Research, Scholarship and Creative Activity: Participate as part of the departmental collective mosaic of talent to fulfill the University scholarship mission by engaging in professional development activities in the areas of teaching and practice. Able to articulate a realistic 1 to 5-year research agenda. Assesses own knowledge and skills in the Social Work discipline and in the role of educator and implements plan for ongoing professional development. Direct efforts towards developing expertise in assigned teaching area through mechanisms such as certification and additional coursework and other scholarly and creative pursuits. Able to articulate the resources necessary from the department to accomplish short- and long-term goals. Demonstrate a record of ongoing scholarship resulting in identified results or products in the areas of teaching, traditional research/grant writing or practice.
Education and Experience:
-Earned doctorate in social work from a regionally accredited institution; Final rank of appointment to Associate/Full Professor will be based on candidates teaching and research credentials.
-Must possess a scholarly record of achievements in teaching and research; Demonstrated excellence in leadership, administration, and resource development; commitment to teaching excellence; and the ability to work effectively and collaboratively with faculty, University administrators, and other constituent groups; Experience with curriculum development, implementation, and evaluation.
REQUIRED: Ph.D. or DSW in Social Work or related degree. Currently licensed Social Worker in the State of Texas.
A scholarly record of achievements in teaching and research that is consistent with an eligible appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor. Preferred service as a Faculty Fellow in Research Teaching or Service. Preferred applicant served as Social Work Program Director, Clinical Coordinator or Title IV Coordinator; Preferred record of application for external funding
