Job Duties & Responsibilities: Associate Extension Administrator
This position will work closely with the Dean and Director of Land Grant Programs and other SL/SAAS leadership team members to provide day-to-day leadership and management of Langston University's Cooperative Extension and Outreach Programs (CEOP). The Cooperative Extension Program is the public service arm of Langston University Sherman Lewis School of Agriculture and Applied Science's Land Grant Program.

Broadly, the Land-Grant Program includes but is not limited to the following program areas: Agriculture and Natural Resources(including agribusiness/Applied Economics, Plant Science and Resource Sustainability, Animal Science and Management), research in production agriculture: crops and animal production, small ruminant production, climate-smart agriculture, family and consumer sciences aquaculture, biotechnology, community economic development, 4-H youth development, youth leadership community nutrition, and others.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
* Serve as the point person for CEOP and provide leadership to CEOP staff in overall program design, development, delivery, and evaluation.
* Provide thoughtful and creative oversight and leadership for existing extension cluster leaders and ensure each cluster operates according to planned programs.
* Supervise CEOP staff (main campus and counties), which includes work allocation, training, and problem resolution; evaluate performance and make recommendations for personnel actions; motivate employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
* Help to maintain an effective CEOP program in the respective area of expertise.
* Work with county staff and colleagues at other universities to deliver programs.
* Prepare required reports and documentation for the U.S. Department of Agriculture and the university.
* As requested, serve on local, state, and national extension committees, task forces, and university committees. Work with the Dean to ensure that L.U. is appropriately represented at CEOP conferences and meetings (e.g., AEA, PLN, APLU, ECOP, ESCOP, etc.).
* Maintain knowledge of client needs based on data analysis.
* Support and encourage multi-state collaborations/partnerships and the generation of singular and integrated proposals for grant funds.
* Keeps abreast of current trends affecting CEOP and keeps the Dean/Directors/Extension Administrator advised as appropriate.
* Assists in budget preparation.
* Professionally interacts with campus administrators, faculty, students, staff, and the public.
* Develops strategies for providing improved integration among teaching, research, and service to ensure that the land-grant function at L.U. is performed effectively.
* Responsible for long-range CEOP programming; Worked with L.U. research program and the Dean/Director to develop joint Research/Extension Plans of Work and annual performance plans by all professional staff in the unit and monitor extension expenditures.
* Builds alliances with businesses and state government agencies, community-based organizations, and others at the local and state levels; seeks input and support from external organizations such as commodity groups, agriculture, and industry stakeholders.
* Works closely with all departments in conducting CEOP activities to ensure proper program and process alignment and integration in LU-SAAS.
* Performs miscellaneous job-related duties and responsibilities as required.

Education & Experience

Position Qualifications:


MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS:

Ph.D. or Ed. D. in Agriculture or related Agricultural fields, such as Agricultural Economics, Agronomy, Horticulture, Family and Consumer Sciences, Extension Education, Community and Economic Development, Youth Development, etc., with at least five years of Extension experience directly related to the duties and responsibilities specified.


SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

         Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively with various constituencies in socioeconomic and demographically diverse communities.

         Knowledge and experience in conducting and administering Cooperative Extension programs.

         Strong Leadership, Problem-solving, and Crisis Management abilities.

         Advanced knowledge and experience in developing strong organizational relationships.

         Advanced ability to write successful grant proposals.

         Knowledge of management practices.

         Strong verbal and written communication skills.

         Ability to operate a personal computer and related software applications.

         Knowledge of Land Grant University and U.S. Department of Agriculture policies and procedures.

         Knowledge and significant experience in working with limited resources and minority group clientele.

         Supervisory ability.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL EFFORT:

         Occasionally may involve some exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.

         Light physical effort. Requires handling of average-weight objects up to 20 pounds or some standing or walking.

         Overnight travel in-state and out-of-state required.
