Associate Director, Undergraduate Academic Advising


Department:
Fisher College | Undergraduate Administration

Under the direction of the Executive Director for Undergraduate Programs, serves as Associate Director for Undergraduate Advising within the Fisher College of Business. Provides direct oversight and management of the college’s academic advising program and advising operations, including individual advisors’ appointment expectations, advising and university systems use and training, advising space allocation, and other needs. Establishes and oversees advising policies processes procedures and internal control structures. Assists in the development of advising operation strategies. Partners with college leader(s) to ensure operational consistency and share information with support staff. Collaborates with Advising Managers regarding the delivery and course design for student orientation and survey course(s). Engages with academic departments on enrollment issues, including wait list management, requests for enrollment exceptions class capacity concerns, and other scheduling and enrollment matters. Manages the delivery of BSBA degree program to the university’s regional campuses. Leads the petitions committee and manages Fisher petition processes. Provides direct supervision to Advising Managers and advising support staff and indirect supervision of undergraduate academic advisors. Assists advisors and managers with complex or escalated cases and provides guidance and resolutions to parents and campus stakeholders. Supports other College offices and initiatives and serves on College and University committees. Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications

Master’s degree or equivalent education and/or experience. A minimum of 7 years’ experience academic advising, higher education, or a related area inclusive of 3 years supervisory experience. Able to apply and operationalize student development theories in training and practice. Understands and follows FERPA guidelines; stays abreast of changes to implementation of FERPA; trains, interprets, explains FERPA guidelines to colleagues and stakeholders. Expert understanding of programs and specialty areas, and the interactions between academics and policies. Historical knowledge of academic advising profession, including ability to adapt to changing trends and deliveries of advising. Able to apply theory to practice; creates training programs to develop skills in advisors. Demonstrates superior communication skills; able to discuss detail, depth, context, rationale and implications. Utilizes adaptive relational and supervision skills to supervise and mentor. Understands complexity of academic choices & combinations, and interactions in degree planning (minors, dual degrees, academic enhancement, etc.). Able to understand and train advisors on understanding the logic, meaning, and outcomes of curriculum; understands and communicates the value added from liberal arts program. Detailed understanding of Title IX, NCAA, HR, Student, and Academic requirements and policies.

Desired Qualifications

Experience and understanding of OSU academic advising policies and procedures.  Extensive knowledge of university policies and procedures. Expert knowledge of SIS transactions develops unit and external policies recommend enhancements.


Additional Information:

The target hiring range for this job profile is $66,900 – 83,600. The actual salary paid to an individual will vary based on multiple factors, including but not limited to, education, years of experience, internal equity, etc.
