Associate Director, Transfer Student Advising - College of Arts and Science

The College of Arts and Science is seeking a dynamic Associate Director to oversee Transfer Student Advising. This individual will advise and counsel a significant cohort of first-year students, serving as the primary academic advisor until they declare their major, and remaining as a support and resource person throughout their undergraduate career. Provide overview of curriculum, policies and procedures. Provide leadership through program development and implementation pertaining to the College Cohort Program and transfer (external) and transition (internal) student initiatives (i.e. internal and external transfer orientation, transfer student course registration processes, and upper-class student engagement). Analyze data received through student inquiries, reviewing higher education “best” practices, and input and recommend new programs and courses to meet changing needs. Assist in the implementation of marketing events to recruit students for admissions into College's programs, including developing information sessions and open houses, and attending university-wide and external events. Serve as the liaison with faculty and other University personnel, and representing the Dean and the College to internal (i.e. Registrar, Admissions, Office of Student Life, other NYU Schools) and external constituencies.

Required Education:
Bachelor's Degree
Preferred Education:
Master's Degree in higher education/education, student affairs, counseling, or organizational leadership strongly preferred.
Required Experience:
5+ years experience in counseling, academic advising, student affairs, event planning, orientation/transition program development or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Preferred Experience:
Working knowledge of theoretical frameworks that guide work supporting undergraduate student transition, student retention theory, student development theory, identity development theory, social and cultural capital and an ability to align scholarship with practice.
Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Superior communication skills and ability to communicate and work with individuals at all levels. Ability to maintain and construct cooperative and mutually beneficial working relationships with others to further organizational goals. Ability to advise a diverse student population of students with a broad knowledge base.
