The Emory University Tax Office operates to provide direct tax consulting and compliance support to all university departments including Legal, H/R and any other office needing tax support. Additionally, as it relates to tax compliance, the Tax Office manages all tax areas with the exception of payroll and encompasses both domestic and international matters. The primary role is to keep the university in good standing with tax compliance for all federal, state, local and international taxing jurisdictions.

 

JOB DESCRIPTION:

  • Reports to the Director of Tax. Plans and manages a variety of financial and tax related activities.
  • Coordinates major financial tax reporting activities including tracking due dates for federal and state tax filings and coordinating the gathering of information.
  • Oversees tax calculations included in financial statements, tax reports, and surveys including preparing monthly tax related journal entries and reconciling tax accounts.
  • Reviews and analyzes statements, schedules and surveys to ensure accuracy, consistency and adherence to appropriate standards.
  • Assists in the development of policies and procedures to ensure compliance with industry guidelines and governmental regulations by reviewing form requirements and communicating new requirements.
  • Performs tax research on issues related to University, hospitals, clinics, and employee benefit plans.
  • Coordinates the preparation of annual tax returns and monthly sales tax reports.
  • Follows up with governmental agencies and external accountants regarding tax notices.
  • Performs related responsibilities as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or a related field and five years of tax experience in either public accounting or corporate tax department.
  • CPA strongly preferred. Nonprofit tax experience, including partnership tax experience, a plus.
  • Knowledge and use of tax preparation software desirable.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Proficient in MS Office including Excel, Word and PowerPoint.

NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs.  Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department of work.  Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
