The Facilities, Maintenance and Capital Programs Strategic Sourcing Center of Excellence works with campus stakeholders and procurement organizations to expand opportunities for teaching, research and public service across the University of California through their expertise and experience in strategic sourcing, procurement and supplier relationship management.
The Facilities, Maintenance and Capital Programs Center of Excellence seeks to leverage annual spend exceeding over $300 million and support continuous improvement of UC business practices. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Strategic Sourcing and leads, manages and develops a team of Commodity Managers, directly working with them in support of the 5 Strategic Pillars of UC's Strategic Sourcing Centers of Excellence:
1. Drive UC Benefit in the form of cost reduction and value creation;
2. Leading Excellent Programs that establish UC as a global leader in public procurement;
3. Communicating and Connecting with stakeholders across UC campuses, medical centers and locations;
4. Influencing and Fostering Innovation to constantly improve the value we deliver; and
5. Growing and Developing our people to provide rewarding, mission driven career opportunities.
The Associate Director establishes and maintains relationships with stakeholders at UC locations that include senior leaders and working staff of campus procurement, facilities, housing, and capital programs. The Associate Director leverages the team of commodity managers to work with campus stakeholders to develop and recommend system-wide strategies and tactics for acquiring goods and services. Strategies are based on detailed knowledge of campus requirements and UC strategic objectives including working with disadvantaged businesses and sustainability. The overarching goals for UC Category strategies are to enhance the institution's ability to accomplish it mission, maximize financial value, increase efficiency and comply with relevant laws and policy requirements.
The Associate Director plays a critical role in communicating UC strategies, programs and objectives to the UC Community, suppliers, and Higher Education stakeholders. The Associate Director works on projects of broad and diverse complexity where critical thinking and analysis of situations or data requires an in-depth evaluation of variable factors. Exercises judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results.
The position requires travel up to 25% and can be based on the nearest UC campus to residence.  
Successful completion of a background check is required for appointment to this critical position.
Position requires annual filing of State of Economic Interests (Form 700).
