Summary of Duties:
The Associate Director of Residence Life is the senior administrator in the Residence Life area of the department and reports to the Director. The Associate Director's primary responsibilities are: 1) Direct supervision of the Assistant Directors of Residence Life and indirect supervision of Residential Education Directors and 120+ student paraprofessional staff; 2) Provide direction to and oversight of the residence life program for more than 5,500 residents living in 19 residence halls and 9 apartment complexes 3) Plan, implement, and facilitate departmental program assessment and evaluation activities; 4)Provide vision and strategic direction to the growth of Living Learning Communities and academic partnerships; 5) Serve as departmental liaison with important University partners including, but not limited to: Dean of Students, Center for Community Standards, Academic Affairs, Academic Success and Career Center, International Programs, Student Engagement Services, Cougar Health and Counseling and Psychological Services, and New Coug Orientation; 6) Lead processes to recruit, hire, train, supervise, evaluate, and retain talented and diverse residence life staff; 7) Assume administrative responsibilities as directed.

Required Qualifications:

  • Positions require a Bachelor's degree in a relevant field and five (5) years of progressively responsible experience in a related field which has included at least two (2) years of management experience. A Master's degree in a relevant field may be substituted for up to one (1) year of the required experience. Any combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
  • Master's degree or higher in education or related field.
  • Minimum of five years post-master's experience working in a college or university residence hall system.
  • Supervision of full time, live-in residence hall staff.
  • Personal commitment to the philosophy and practice of participatory management and community standards.
  • Demonstrated commitment to the values of accessibility, diversity, inclusion, and equity.
  • Functional competence with Microsoft Office computer software.

  • Successful experience in recruiting, hiring, training, evaluating, and retaining highly talented and diverse staff.
  • Demonstrated ability to successfully manage crises and emergencies.
  • Experience analyzing and resolving conflict, team building, group dynamics and problem-solving skills.
  • Experience with research and assessment.
  • Experience with large group presentations.
  • Experience working with student leadership and advising.
  • Experience working with other student affairs departments or committees including developing partnerships for joint initiatives.
  • Experience assessing and managing risk.
  • Experience with program development and assessment for residence hall experiences.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills.
  • Operational knowledge and experience managing budgets,

Monthly Salary:
$6,860 - $7,800 | Commensurate with qualifications and experience. This position is based in the WSU Zone 1, Salary Grade 8.
In accordance with RCW 49.58.110, the above salary reflects the full salary range for this position. Individual placement within the range is based on the candidate's current experience, education, skills, and abilities related to the position. Successful candidates typically begin up to mid-point of the salary range.
