About the Role

Boston University Student Financial Services seeks an Associate Director. The Associate Director is one of two managers at Student Financial Services. This role supports the operations of financial aid awarding, fund management, and training new and existing staff on changes in institution and federal policies. This role supervises three professional staff members.

The Associate Director works with staff at all levels within Student Financial Services (SFS), in other offices withing the Enrollment & Student Administration unit, as well as staff in Admissions and Finance for the BU School of Medicine, the Goldman School of Dental Medicine, Graduate Medical Sciences, and the School of Public Health. The Associate Director also liaises between SFS and BU’s Office of Financial Assistance within their loans area. This role reports to the Director of Student Financial Services.

The Associate Director’s primary duties include:

  • Assigning file review to SFS staff;
  • Collaborating with another Associate Director on projects assigned by the Director;
  • Reviewing reports to confirm completion of work by SFS staff;
  • Maintaining restricted fund expenditures;
  • Troubleshooting issues brought by SFS staff, and;
  • Working with other ENSA, and BU stakeholders to resolve student issues in a timely fashion.

Student Financial Services (SFS) is part of the Enrollment & Student Administration unit (ENSA). SFS provides students on the Boston University Medical Campus (BUMC) with tools and guidance to manage financial aid while at Boston University as well as the resources to be financially successful upon graduation.

About the Candidate

A Master’s degree and five or more years of related experience, with three or more years of management experience are required for this position.

We are seeking a candidate who:

  • Demonstrates the ability to make decisive and well-researched decisions;
  • Can organize and lead staff meetings;
  • Is well-versed in federal financial aid policy, ideally pertaining to graduate/professional students;
  • Has the ability to work independently with minimal supervisory oversight;
  • Demonstrates superior and professional customer service skills, and;
  • Has acute analytical skills and the ability to understand complex mathematical data.

While the following experience and skills will be helpful in performing this role, the department is willing to train them with the right candidate:

  • BU’s student information system, UIS;
  • School-specific awarding policies, and other proprietary computer systems, and;
  • Collaboration with the office’s other Associate Director to create a refresh to the office's financial literacy program.
